Industrial sales manager. Manage a team of 5 sales people across 12 states of the south/south-east.

I bill clients and will send large demo files from my home office, but I travel for my actual gig since I am a speaker.

I imagine you IT folks have been doing it for a while and it's not easy to break into. I need a change of venue and working from home sounds right up my alley.

Quoted: I did not like it at first, but now enjoy it. View Quote The hard part is learning that you are not working a 9 to 5 job. If you work 9 to 5, AND work when there are things that need to be done, you will ALWAYS be working. The trick is to do work in blocks -- get things done, and then step away. Set goals, achieve them, and then stop working. I like to start early in the day, get my work done, then go outside for a little while. I'll come back in, finish up conference calls, and then call it a day if nothing is going on -- usually in time for dinner with the family. |

I build custom cabinets and such in a little shop on our acreage. Other than installs, I'm probably here 9 out of 10 days.
My wife is a phone triage nurse. She is just waiting for a spot to open up where she would be able to do it from home. Even out here in BFE we are lucky enough to have fiber optic internet. |

Applications developer.
I work from home sometimes, like today. What I want to do is move to the sticks and work from home permanently. |

A majority of them are going to be IT.
In our office we have some flexibility to work from home or office. However, I like my team to be in the office whenever possible. Speaking of jobs, I have a Network Engineer position open in the beautiful Colorado Front Range. Any takers? |

Systems Engineering/Systems Administration. They need to be close to the gear if and when something goes wrong. I've found that having them close together also makes for a stronger team. It's also good to have them around the development teams and such because you pick up on things in the break rooms and other common areas. |

Productivity and sense of team. Correct. I didn't get in to productivity but you're spot on. There are times where we need to get everyone in to the same room to knock things out. You'll never be able to replace 1 on 1 human interaction. Video has tried but its just not the same. |

Customer support/Service, being able to wake up 10 minutes before having to log in is nice
|
|
I'm home anywhere between 30% and 50% of the time.
I program Audio/Video Control Systems for integrated A/V environments. Specifically this stuff. |
|
Stay at home dad. Most thankless job Ive ever had

I'd be interested to talk further to see what your experience has been. Mind if I shoot you a PM? |

Or, I'll look out the window and the light is hitting the mountains just right, or the horses see me looking out and start calling me. There are distractions at home that are not present in an office environment. Though, I'll get a muse at 3:00am sometimes and work away. Sorta like right now it is 3:21am in Guam. Time zone shift... |

It takes the right person(s) to work remote .. with the right mgmt. Generally people with 5-10 years of experience and 30+ seem to take to it better . In other words if you have employees that have to be babysat it won't work, or if someone is new to the game you can't really be tutored as well but if you have a team that is engineering /architect level those people seem to work better without the office drama / "teambuilding" Of my last "real" jobs 3 have been remote and I never met my supervision face to face in the scope of work 2 were in the office and those for me quantifiable I was far less productive |
