Being omnipotent, couldn't God have just instantly willed everything into existence? And what's with needing a day to rest?

What part about the bible being a book of parables is so hard to understand?
Please don't take all those stories literally. |

Depends on your translation. Days are actually periods of time and are not all equal.
The day to rest is setting up the sabbath. |

He certainly could have, being God and all. But He was also establishing a pattern that He expected Israel to follow. It was all part of his beautiful, seemingly chaotic plan that will only make sense in the end.

Same reason it took Pan Gu 18,000 years to push apart the heaven and earth.

God has to dumb things down a bit when he talks to us. |

Define a day before there was a sun and earth.
"Days" was simply a way of the bible explaining the concept of creation for our minds at the time. |

The dough had to rise, then beat back down, kneaded and then put in pans to bake............!!

It may have taken six days, but it was not intended to be taken literal, it was done to establish a pattern of how things should go. Just like God did not rest in the literal sense on the seventh day. He is God and therefore cannot become tired and therefore does not need to rest, this was all symbolic.

Does being omnipotent mean you can't take time for contemplation and reflection?
He worked a bit each day then stopped to make sure it was "good". In that way, creating the world is a lot like rebuilding a transmission. |

View Quote Days as we know it in terms of twenty four hours of time didn't exist back then. Days are expressive it's not meant to be truly literal. A day could literally be a thousand years, you wouldn't know. There is a lot of symbolism and references in the Bible. This is why a lot of Christians believe in the big bang theory in the effect that it was Gods work or method of creation.... because 6 days could literally be the millions of years it took. |

It's trying to humanize the experience.
The good book is to gives answers to the unknown so you have to give answers in a way humans can understand. |
