And I bet my neighbors and friends who had to borrow my , generator, propane heaters and kerosene heaters, still have no means to heat their houses if the power goes out.

I hope not.  Last winter was indeed brutal.  I've started winterizing already.

Not yet.  Last year it was November 12.  The year before it was November 18.  I am going to dispose of all the fish except for the Channel catfish which I will overwinter this time in a 150 gallon indoor stock tank in the basement.  Last year was an absolute nightmare trying to keep fish in the unheated garage.  I learned a lot about my kerosene heater.

Better start filling kerosene cans now. We will have a coal stove and a winters worth of coal by November.  Once we get set up I'll start buying coal for next winter.  I would like to have a couple winters worth saved up.

Every year it's going to be a horrible winter.  Every year we have these threads.  Every year the people around my town panic because winter is coming and they heard from a farmer that because it rained on a Tuesday in April we're going to see sub zero temps and 10ft of snow.

"What do you know of fear? Fear is for the winter, when the snows fall a hundred feet deep and the ice wind comes howling out of the north. Fear is for the long night, when the sun hides its face for years at a time, and little children are born and live and die all in darkness while the direwolves grow gaunt and hungry, and the white walkers move through the woods. Thousands and thousands of years ago, a winter fell that was cold and hard and endless beyond all memory of man. There came a night that lasted a generation, and kings shivered and died in their castles even as the swineherds in their hovels. Women smothered their children rather than see them starve, and cried, and felt their tears freeze on their cheeks. So, GD. This is the sort of story you like"

That was pretty funny. Winter cars on fire FTW!

I was working in SC when all that happened. Everyone was terrified. Empty roads. I'd just drive along like usual, and once in awhile see a car from NY or somewhere zip along too just fine. Meanwhile, all the SC and GA cars were basically idling down the road, terrified.
