I've seen a couple movies about them. Try to catch them in the act of doing something wrong. Then have them make up for it with...favors. Then don't pay them as punishment. Win for everyone it seems to me

Serious answer? Get a referral from someone you trust and ask what they pay.
Out of curiosity, I just looked on craigslist. Holy shit people are dumb.

Depends on how horrible your kid is.
15 years ago, me and my ex had trouble finding anyone to watch one of my sons for $100 for a couple of hours. |

My teenage daughter charges $10 per hour for the first kid, and $2 per hour for each additional kid. She has a $25 minimum.
Before my wife let her start babysitting she took CPR and first aid classes. She has a "new family checklist" and gets cell numbers, emergency contact info, and special instructions. Her customers seem to appreciate her effort, and she gets lots of referrals. It's a very good money maker for her, except that as she gets older she has less free time available to do it. |

We pay ours (18 yo) $10/hour for watching our now 8 and 10 year old. Extremely reliable. Cleans up, does dishes etc.
