Convictions.  This is why IL, NY, NJ, CA, etc weren't higher on the list.  Corruption is a everywhere, but in some states you can apparently get away with it.

I'm not surprised at all that my state made #3.

Methods to determine most corrupt state is flawed as already stated.

With that said, since they are judging state govt's, Georgia should at the min. be in the low teens, especially the past 4 yrs..

New Hampshire is comprised of the chosen people.

Normally I won't lower myself to speak to you lesser forty-niners, but I do have some sage advice for you.

We pay our State Reps 100 bucks per year (200 for the two year term, 250 in certain limited cases, limited mileage, etc.).

We have 400 of them.  They spend most of their time fighting over 5 bucks in revenue and when they can break for their (brown bag) lunch.

You need more citizen representatives and less politicians.

"Attacking corruption, the researchers argue, could be a good way to bring down state spending without hurting services that people need".

No shit?

The mostly rural county I live in currently has our former super intendent up on charges for years of misuse  of funds.  The former head of our narcotics task force is also up on charges for theft.

Things like this are not uncommon here.

Yes Louisiana is on the list as they take corrupt to whole new meaning......one of the reasons I got the hell of there.  I would think IL or NY would be #1 though.

Convictions for engaging in corrupt practices.

Which do not occur due to lack of investigation and charges being filed in states like CA, NY, NJ, MD and MA that are so corrupt that those in charge of fighting corruption simply laugh at people making any allegations of corruption.

I find it interesting that huge numbers of people are in here declaring that THEIR state ought to be on the list.  Everyone sees the corruption in their own neck of the woods so clearly, and thinks that it can't be any worse elsewhere, but most are wrong about that last part.

I can't believe Kentucky was only #9. When I lived there, the previous Sherriff had been thrown in federal prison for growing and distributing marijuana, and I'm pretty sure a good portion of the cops were on the take. And that was in a small county.

LOL  I grew in a county where the sheriff was always rumored to be the biggest dealer in town.

And my Dad once worked for a former KY State police chief who had MJ growing on his property.
