I need the biggest vehicle that gets 30 mpg, the AWD of the Forester gets it done for me.
Just came back from checking it out. I also am considering the Honda CRV and the Toyota RAV4. I also wanna keep as inexpensive as possible. What say the hive? |

Owned a '10 cr-v. Resounding "meh". Best we ever saw was about 25mpg. The 2.4L 4-cyl is a pig.

I drive one (forester L.A.V. lessbian assault vehicle), and am generally considered the coolest and manliest guy on arfcom.

You are just embracing your inner lesbian.
The downside is you are not a hot lipstick lesbian. You are one of the angry hairy lipped types. Enjoy your Subaru! |
|
Most Subaru drivers I've seen have man cards... it's just that most of them were forged. |
|
You're not getting 30mpg.
But it is an awesome car. The XT is pretty neat, and you can get it in a manual. |
|
|
Sounds like you have more brains than the average arfcom user. Everyone seems to think its manly to get 11mpg with their golden money trees growing lots of money and oil in the back yard.

I drive a Forester. I love the thing.Studded tires in the winter. Goes anywhere. I love going places my buddies in there F-250 cant go.I live in Kodiak ,Alaska. We have weather here and gas is $4.50 a gallon.i think those big pickups and SUVs are like beards for the less manly and hipster types.

I had a 2005 Forester XT with manual transmission.
Loved that car.

Nope. My wife and I have a Forester. It is her primary, but I enjoy driving it.

I considered a Forester for all my daughter's equipment and stuff. We ended up getting an Escape instead. Decision was made mostly on price though. Would still like a Forester.

I've always wanted to pick up a used Forrester and drop a little diesel engine in it.
Like maybe a VW tdi. |

Subarus are awesome.
Wife has a 2011 WRX STi hatch. I take every chance to drive it. It's fun to smoke the douches in Camaros and Mustangs. |
|
The wife and I just chose the Forester over the CRV. It ended up being $900 less than the CRV and it included Navigation and the CRV didn't. The fuel economy was better than the CRV as well.

I have an uncle that is on his second Subaru wagon. He uses the AWD to go primitive camping out at Big Bend National Park and down on the national sea shore that is a 4WD only area. They seem to be pretty rugged and reliable.

I have a 2013 Impreza, I really like it a lot. As long as I live in a place that gets snow, I'm not sure that I want to be without a Subaru again. It's not that I can't get by without it. This is my first AWD vehicle. But this past winter when the roads did get bad and people were struggling up hills, I was effortlessly moving forward.
I have a 2007 Tacoma also. It was my only vehicle for about six years. I have a bit of a long commute so I picked up the Impreza for better fuel efficiency. Typically now I use the Impreza to go to work and the Tacoma on the weekends. I know two people at work who have Foresters, they seem to like them a lot too. I don't think they're getting anywhere near 30 mpg though. ETA: Just remembered, one just sold her Forester recently and bought a Subaru Crosstrek. She seems to love it. |

Excellent choice. Currently driving a '06 Legacy GT, and getting ready to move on to a Forester XT.
Most aren't smart enough to accept that driving their pickup and 12mpg to the office is just flat out stupid. |
|
get the 27 MPG XT version and don't look back(cuz you will be passing everything in sight while on glare ice in a blizzard).
the 2014 forester XT, 2.0 turbo motor(258 HP, same as the 2015 WRX), transmission(flappy paddle same as 2015 WRX), takes regular gas(doesn't require premium), LOTS of space, AND the spare tire well is PERFECT for an M4.... |
|
I got 'em for the best mileage I could get for a long commute and lots of snow. 01 Forester - blown head gasket, internal leak. Smoked the engine. 04 Outback. Blown head gasket, external leak. Fixed it once at 120k, blown again after another 60k miles. Now I just keep topping off the oil and cleaning the leaked oil off the exhaust manifold to avoid a fire. Can't afford to fix it and can't afford a replacement.
Gas mileage for the commute keeps me in the pussymobile market, but I'll never get another Subaru again. On an unrelated note...anyone wanna buy an '04 Subaru pussy wagon? It's a peach! |

I've driven about 10k in a 2011 Forester, and it's impressed me quite a bit. I've broken 30 mpg several times, but 25 is the realistic average. They're more capable than many think. I learned that lesson north of Donner Pass a year or so ago. Keep your speed down, and it's a damn mountain goat. This test should give you an idea- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBaUCHiJxxs View Quote |

I like the Forrester but the Outback is a better wagon.
Unless you get the Forrester touring Turbo thingy. That thing is retard-fast. |
|
Men used to drive trucks then the pussification happened .
I kid, I drive a 370z when I 'm not driving then Titan |
|
I bought a used forester for one of my crews at work. Worst mpg has been 25, best is 29 and most commonly around 27.x. I'll take that with AWD any day of the week. It also has 258,000 on the clock.
|
|
Love my 13 crosstrek. It does everything a suv or stock truck can do, with better mpg.
|
|
Next time you see a Subaru commercial, listen to the guy that says, "Love, it's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru." Guy sounds queer as fuck. That said, I like the car and was recently considering one.
