Good epoxy? - AR15.COM

I have used JB Weld once before, I found it not as strong as I hoped. yesterday I bought JB Weld putty to do some repair work, after 20 hours, it is still soft and finger nail can dent or scratch it easily, I can't imagine it has 300psi tensile strength as claimed, it will be lucky to be 10psi. Is epoxy overrated or just JB Weld sucks?

is there a good epoxy that will be as hard as rock?

JB weld is the bomb. You can drill and tap that stuff. Get the original JB weld 2 part epoxy, not the quick set or any other, get the original and mix it properly.

ETA: Let cure for 24 hours.

JB usually sets up and cures overnight. Do mix it right 50/50 and do not disturb until it cures. Epoxy up whatever you're epoxying then forget the thing exists, don't move it again or touch it, breathe on it, etc. for the entire curing period.

Marine-Tex. I've patched holes in small engine blocks, etc with it.

I used some Loctite epoxy recently. I had no problems mixing it or applying it. It set up properly when left overnight.

This. I use T-88 for structural woodworking epoxy. I would not use JB weld for that application.

i used JB plastic putty to fill a big hole in plastic, the fill is nowhere near as strong as the plastic

btw i did mix 50/50 and mix it thoroughly

It's not going to work to fill large gaps.You need to use it to put a patch of some sort on.

Listen to this - he knows what he is saying. West System is heinously expensive, but worth every fucking penny!! Going from JB Weld to West System is like going from an RG to a Colt Python. A can of resin, hardener, and some proportioning pumps will probably set you back around $100 instead of the $6.95 for JB Weld, but you'll be glad you did!

So did I, it's good stuff. I got the one with the mixing tubes, worked great and no mess. They sell it at Home Depot.

Yep - great stuff!

I got my last gallon from Aircraft Spruce.

It's not designed to work like JB Weld but for bonding most stuff and especially wood, West System is great.

Going to go with this too, Had a friend that stripped and blew a spark,plug out of the head of an engine, we slapped some JB on the plug and shoved it back in. Let it sit over night and started it and it held. Drove the car for 10K miles before it blew the plug back out. That time we put a heli coil in.

Secret here is West makes several fillers you add to the epoxy to get the right strength for the job.
Soft for fairing and sanding to hard for bedding and drilling.

If your not using it in a high temp application, golf club epoxy is great stuff. It has excellent adhesion and shock resistance. It's the epoxy used to hold the club head onto the shaft. It also comes in black.
