Anyone?

I have a business trip to DC in a few weeks and decided not to drive or fly and take the train, instead.

I have the option to fly, but it would take forever between driving to the airport, parking, waiting in screening, etc.  And, I have the option to drive, but don't want to deal with the weather.

Any good/bad experiences?  Is there a bar?  Is it worth the upgrade to first class?

My limited expereince on the train has been Metro North to NYC and from NYC to Philly.

I ride a commuter train daily from Fredericksburg, VA to DC.  My train is OK...but the accomodations on the AMTRAK trains are much nicer.  Never ridden the Acela but I understand they are quite plush.  Our engineers & conductors are AMTRAK employees.  I have spoken with them about the new train and they say it is very nice but not all that fast because of the poor trackage.  A high speed train like the Acela needs lots of long stretches of very straight and stable track.  The trackage on the east coast lines (and for most of the United States) is not designed for high speed passenger trains as in Europe and Japan.

I susptect they have a bar car and a cafe car as well.

You will find the ride pleasant and relaxing. MUCH better than commuting by car.  The train only hits its advertised 150mph on one or two short stretches from DC to NYC.

Not sure about upgrading to first.  It is much more expensive.
