This is the problem; food aid turned into money.

Grain is a commodity that is easily sold for cash. People that don't know what a "gene" is would hardly care if a seed came from a genetically modified plant.

This is why I'm so cynical about charities - they're nothing but fund-raising organizations.  And Africa is too corrupt to be helped anyway.  I heard an expression in Zimbabwe once:  "The poor people in America send money to the rich people in Africa."

Once heard my father say, "The one you feed today is one you may have to fight tomorrow."

It's beginning to look like Somalia all over again.

Zimbabwe once fed much of Africa.  The black communists that the US and Great Britain put in power have killed and run off the white farmers.  They have no more idea of how to run agriculture than anything else.  The formerly well cared for black workers on the farms are being taken to baren areas and left with absolutely nothing.  They are told to leave the country or starve.

I recall reading an article addressed to all of the "do-gooders' about thirty years ago.  It was called How to Hurt Africa or something like that.  It clearly outlined how Africa would be far, far worse off if we started letting their petty tyrants run things and gave them endless foreign aid.  Of course the writer was absolutely right.  The Congo is a miserable tribute to liberalism and the suffering there is greater for our interfering.  Zimbabwe, South Africa and the other countries have lived through unimaginable hell.  Luckily we have kept any sane and caring people from stopping it with our idiocy, our tax dollars, and our guns.  People complain of Cuba just off of our coast and all of the Central and the South American troubles that they have caused.  Kennedy and his crowd gave a free hand to their maintaining a 35,000 man army that has run all over Africa since the sixties spreading their brand of government.  Things should get a lot better now.  Ghadafi is becoming a major player in the Congo  We will all have to wait and see how this enlightened leader works to help U.S. interests.

That was when it was Rhodesia and the inmates weren't running the assylum.

Some parts of Africa are learning a hard lesson.
Be careful what you wish for because you might get it.

Zimbabwe used to be called Rhodesia.  It is a very mineral rich country and the guy that came up with the idea for the Boy Scouts is credited with settling.  There are some really good stories there.  During the 60's and later there were forces of communism and supposedly the free world trying to gain control of the Congo.  True to form the country of Rhodesia underwent a blockade forced upon them by Great Briain and the US.  It is a land locked country and when South Africa was finally forced to stop helping them, they fell.  The communist forces in the country had been trying the usual ways of taking the country for years.  They would raid a farm and tie up everyone with wire, owners, workers everyone and burn them alive.  Cute little things like that.  There were two factions in the country, one was Russian backed and the other Chinese.  Mugabe was backed by the Russians and did little things like shoot down an airliner loaded with the inhabitants of a Catholic orphanage and then get on the radio and brag of machine gunning the survivors.  The Rhodesian Scouts would go out into the bush commie hunting in some of the most incredible military operations that have ever been done.  Sometimes they would go out alone made up like a native armed only with a pistol so that they could pretend to be unarmed.  The might wait for weeks for a squad of the enemy to come by and then single handidly wipe them out.
To keep this short Maggie Thatcher set up an phoney government where both the Russkie and Chicom warlords would share power.  Mugabe killed the Chicom commie before he could be killed and has been in power ever since.  Oh yeah.  Mugabe was in New York the other day and  the Dems gave him a big honorary dinner.  the same heavy hitter internationalists taht are responsible for this mess are of course the same crowd that run our government from behind the scenes.  As I type this South Africa is undegoing no warrant gun raids.
