Same as any parent wants I guess. I just want to stick around long enough to see she gets started right. I'd like her to know some of the values that we knew as kids. Some of those values that too many people these days are thinking are old fashioned. Most of all I want her to be grateful as I am every day of my life to live in these United States. I know it may sound corny, but the first thing my daughter is learning from me is The Lord's Prayer! And some of the psalms. And I don't really care if she ever memorizes the Gettysburg Address, just so long as she understands it. And since little girls are seldom called upon to defend their country, she may never have to raise her hand for that oath. But I certainly want her to respect all those who do. I guess that's what I want for my daughter...

Why do grown men fall for what an actor has to say just because he's wearing a cowboy outfit? Here’s a hint. He’s acting. It’s the E channel from the 60’s. We went from cowboys to fat ass Armenian chicks with black guy fetish. Can’t wait to see what the next 20 years look like when muskrat love Kim represents the good ole days.

My dad worked for the phone company and his crew did a lot of work for the "stars". He had Sonny & Cher, Don Knotts and a few others. One day he was helping someone at John Wayne's house in Encino. John Wayne saw them sitting out in the back yard at a table eating lunch from their lunch buckets. He came out, said he'd have none of that and had his housekeeper cook them some steaks. Dad said he was a real nice guy.

John Wayne was a hero to my Grandfather (a WWII vet); and we watched his movies together whenever we could. I inherited my opinion of John Wayne from that time spent watching those movies with him. The only time I saw my Grandfather cry was when I was 9 years old and we had just found out John Wayne had passed on. I view John Wayne as a personal hero and think he was a good man, a great actor, and a great American. He was like any other man though, he had feet of clay.
Looking back, his reaction to the election of JFK is something we could all stand to learn. "I didn't vote for him but he's my president, and I hope he does a good job." I've been whispering words to that effect since 2008.
I think his best move was The Quiet Man, but my Grandfather was a western fan so I've watched all those too. |
