....that is the question.
I keep hearing the term "snow machine" nowadays as opposed to the normal term "snowmobile". Is there a difference between the two? Did something change? Was a memo not issued? A snow machine sounds like something that might produce and/or render inoperative......snow. I gots to know. pole |

I used to hear snow machine back when I was a little kid in the 60s-70s. We called them snowmobiles when I was a teenager though.

Snow machines make snow for skiing, snowmobiles have skis and a track and you ride them.
The first time I heard snowmachine used otherwise was when we started hearing all about Todd Palin. |

They call them snow machines up here. Never hear the term snow mobile much at all unless I'm talking to someone from the lower 48.

....I've heard them referred to as "Snow-Gos". That just makes me think of ice melt products.. "I spread a little Sno Go on the sidewalk" .

Snowmachine is AK vernacular, and we ran them more there than anywhere else in this country, that makes it proper in my book. Anyone that went out and f'd shit up on the reg called them sleds. Dealing with non-907s I usually call them snowmobiles, they can't wrap their head around machine and evidently think I'm talkling about jumping spines and runnin 80mph thru 3' of fresh powder on a $10.00 plastic Costco when I call them sleds. I miss my sled. http://img802.imageshack.us/img802/4826/oezh.jpg Buddy in the HooDoos View Quote |

View Quote Yeah everyone riding in anything other than carhartts, duct tape, bunny boots and a trapper hat running their line on a Bravo or Tundra is queer as a three dollar bill. Well except those guys on the superwide tracked couch with heated suit and visor, they're the very epitome of hardcore riders, unless of course their schnapps runs out, then they're just whiny. |

It's a snowmobile. Old timers say snow machine. Upstate NY most people into the sport just call it a sled.
|
|
I've always called them snowmobiles.
Then again, I've never even seen one in real life that I can remember. |
