She is a lake runner and a road runner. I cant wait to get on the roads tonight we are getting 8 to 12. Nothing like flying down empty 4 lane roads through suburbia when its normally heavy traffic.

....that is the question.

I keep hearing the term "snow machine" nowadays as opposed to the normal term "snowmobile". Is there a difference between the two? Did something change? Was a memo not issued?

A snow machine sounds like something that might produce and/or render inoperative......snow.

I gots to know.

I grew up in PA.  My grandfather and uncles all had snowmobiles.  One uncle even raced for a while.

I moved to AK and everyone there used the term snowmachine.

I think it's an east/west dialect thing, kind of like soda/pop (fuck that Taxes/south "coke" for everything carbonated nonsense).

ETA - apparently "sled" is the coke option here.

Snowmobile
Sled
Snowcat
Scooter
Buggy

First two are by far the most common.
Snowcat is mostly used by old timers.
Scooter and Buggy are only used when it is absolutely clear what you are referring to...i.e. "go start your buggy/scooter"  It would not be appropriate to ask somebody "are you gonna buy a new scooter this year" in the middle of summer.

Snowmachine is an Alaska thing and it's stupid

Registered trademark of the Kawasaki Motor Corp.

They prefer you call the off-brands "watercraft".
