Is this why people have clown phobias?

I caught the beginning when I was a wee little boy. Finally watched the rest last night. It was mildly creepy, and a bit silly. The creature at the end was a bit much. Entertaining nonetheless.

No, clown phobias existed before that movie.  It just didn't do anything to help.

Have you read the book?  As much as I hate to be that guy, it's way better than the mini series (which wasn't bad).

Fuck Stephen King.  Hasn't been relevant in 30 years.

Great book, it had everything you wanted, monsters, phobias, psychological thrills, and teenage group sex!  How can you go wrong?

Read the book years ago in college.   Creepy as hell.   I can't bring myself to watch a made for TV movie.  No way it could be as good as my imagination. -J

That was the first book I ever read that I actually dreamed about.  Freakin' clowns.......

I never found it particularly scary, but I thought the clown was creepier than the actual monster itself.

it was good, the book was awesome, the ending for both was terrible.

Poltergeist is the movie you seek.

You need to watch Killer Klowns from Outer Space....a classic in clown "horror".

It was fucking terrifying to see as a child.  It's funny now.

The book is substantially creepier than the movie.

There are things in the book they could never depict in film.

I will have to read the book.  When I saw the movie everytime I saw Pennywise I kept thinking about Rocky Horror and Home Alone.

Man I always hated clowns. They just look like they are up to no good.

The book is always better.

Poltergeist wasn't bad, even when I was a kid.

The Exorcist was probably the most comical of that era.

For some reason the first Nightmare on Elm Street scared me a bit

I got to watch a lot of movies that would be considered inappropriate for my age. I think that as long as I didn't see nudity, it was ok.

The Evil Dead, Re-Animator, and Alien are a few other notable examples.

The book is excellent.

The movie is ok for a low budget made for TV affair.Tim Curry hit it out of the park as Pennywise though.
