Jeff's story really opened my eyes to what arfcom is capable of. A man in need of somebody to talk to had 5 visitors, 22 pages of replies, and a fund to help him out with multiple thousands of dollars in it......just from Arfcommers today. It is truly a strange feeling, knowing of the camaraderie and trust you can share with nearly anonymous, like minded folk such as yourselves. Last June, there was a wildfire burning less than three miles from my house. I started a thread about possibly needing to evacuate (priorities right
 ) and had multiple replies with well wishes and prayers. When the evac turned mandatory, I was getting PMs with offers of storage for my stuff, transportation, and resources. I even had a pm from a guy half the state away, willing to come up with an f250 and a large trailer, help me haul stuff back to his place, and stay there if need be. It was an eye opener to the power of this particular community. Share a story about how arfcom has helped or offered to help you, and gentlemen, am I sure glad to be among you

It surprised me when I checked back later tonight to see that 24/365 is covering his sons Christmas list and there's almost half the goal raised in less than a day. Lots of people I don't care for here, but the good makes up for it.

I had put together a HTF meet and greet back in June IIRC. (MT wasn't too successful in past attempts) There was supposed to be a couple or a few other members join up. Well after the scheduled meeting time, I posted in GD an "Ask a guy anything" thread and relayed that I was there, but no one else was. I had a lot of encouraging posts in the thread. Next thing I knew the waitress came up and said "There's a guy on the phone that wants to pay for your beer". He even offered to buy my dinner. They wouldn't allow it, but I asked if I could speak with the caller and they let me. The fellow member related with me that organizing HTF get-togethers is a lot like herding cats. He encouraged me to keep trying. I was floored. That's when I bought my membership. It wasn't a stranger calling from 1,600 miles away. It was a brother reaching out.
We've since had a couple of HTF get-togethers and it's picking up some steam. I look forward to meeting the locals and if there's ever a chance- the distant friends too. Incidentally, and none too surprising to me, the fellow member is in the picture with Jeff today. |

I remember a thread with a guy in Wisconsin going through a divorce, mentioned it was bad, and possible bail money was needed, or at least a ride home. He had multiple offers of a ride home, and beers bought, without anyone having actually met him before.
It was southern WI, so he even had some of us northern Il guys willing to DD on a moments notice. I love you fucknards, wouldn't have it any other way. |

My Marine Reserve unit had recently come back from the invasion of Iraq (OIF I) and we were gearing up to go back again for OIF II/III. The only problem was, that we were short on M-16 magazines. I posted that here and a member sent me a box of magazines. I was able to equip my squad and other members of my platoon with extra mags. They were put to good use.

I've noticed this all over the shooting community in general but you're absolutely right. I've been lucky enough to not need to rely on others but it's comforting to see success stories like this where others have and have gotten the support they need.
