Why doesn't the ink wear off after a few years, as the skin grows out from beneath?

Because the ink is under the skin.
Not in it

You are required to have the ink just as long as the felonies stay on your record.

Well, at least you started a thread that will go at least 3 pages.

Because the Devil causes it to rise to the top so he can claim your soul when you die. How else would he be able to identify his minions?

its in a layer of skin that doesn't normally get replaced.

it's in the sheet-metal layer, not the paint layer of a car.

I did a strip search for narcotics on a dude one time who had flames tattooed on his pecker.

That was awkward

Ink is injected into the dermis. (I think)

The epidermal layers are sufficiently transparent for the ink to show through. (I think)

Okay, thanks for the explainations.

The ink is broken up Into millions of tiny droplets that sit I between the cells. They are injected into an area deep enough that dead cells are not shed like in the skins outer layers. Dead cells are broken down leaving the ink in the voids. As new cells divide they push the ink around a little bit causing the ink to migrate over time and blurring the tattoo. The inks are also broken down slowly over time by sunlight, skin damage, some makes it to the surface through migration, ect...

A well placed tattoo will look good for a long time, a shitty shallow one will start showing holes and thin spots in under a year.

Why do people mark up their bodies with them?
How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
