Dipshit makes an offhand comment about them giving up their weapons and not bombing them if they do. Russia calls their bluff on it and runs with it. Now he wants to backpedal and act tough because they made him look like a fool.

What's Kerry going to do? Start a war?
Everybody that's not the US likes this deal. It avoids a larger war nobody's population wants. And Russia is backing it up with a fair number of warships in the US. The US already looks bad and Kerry decides 30 days is too long? Also, isn't "that's too short a timetable" a thing said before Iraq? Kerry really seems to want to bomb something. |

I wonder if Russia will come back with a rebuke of Kerry noting that Kerry is ill-informed on the complexities of this effort.
Add to it that he should quit trying to initiate hostilities and just go to some other hotspot and meddle. Russians will provide updates when appropriate. |

Assad wants to stay in power.
We are funding rebels, to oust him. Assad gasses his people. We threaten to strike, but not in a way that achieves our end state. Russia cuts deal for Assad to allow an international group to take away all his chemical weapons. Kerry and Obama agree. This will require a cease fire, which will essentially stop the rebellion. Assad remains in power, BECAUSE he gassed his own people. We are seen as weak. Russia is seen as strong. Al Qaida rebels hate us even more. |
