Plants don't usually work that way, but some do.

Most trees don't have male/female in the way you're thinking.....but no, fruit/nuts/whatever come from the female parts of the flowering apparati.


Common Persimmon and Eastern Red cedar are two common (in the east) species that have separate male/female trees. The males must be nearby to pollinate the females; males will never produce fruit.

Trees are usually hermaphrodites and when you pick nuts, you are performing late-stage abortions and eating the babies.
