Hopefully ain't talking about T-Rats. cause I ate those for about a month straight (One meal a day and it was the same one) and the green beans tasted like cigarette butts.

MREs are fine for the first week or so.

I do miss MREs at times, and occasionally I will break one out of my storage and treat my family to a nice meal.

MREs nowadays are pretty damn good. They get old after awhile due to lack of options, though. And they don't have many calories anymore.

I got stuck with the only thing left in the tent today... Vegetarian burger with veggie sauce.  It was awful.

Where's the link to the story about the guy who served a girl an MRE for a date?  He did it up gourmet style with nice silverwear and everything.... didn't tell her what she was eating until she finished.

Did your family get a restraining order against you after that?

No, my wife actually enjoys certain parts of certain meals, and my daughter is to young to know the difference.

Day one: eat 2 MRE's
Day two: eat 1 MRE plus snacks from others
Day three:  snacks from MRE only
Day four+:  copenhagen and sunflower seeds, enjoy being constipated, and the double piss off of being charged for three MREs a day whether you eat them or not.  Stockpile them in spite.  Return from FTX with a ruck sack full of MREs.

So, they charge you for MRE's, whether you want them or not.

Pretty fucked up.  Sounds like the Army, alright.

Nope. You live in the barracks you get a meal deduction, even if you don't eat at the chow hall.

I had red beans, rice, and meatballs for six weeks. I'd come back from a patrol having been listening to my stomach growl for the last three hours of it, take one whiff of the mess tent and suddenly not be hungry. Lost over 30lbs in under two months.

at KAF we'd go to whiskey ramp for lunch(if we weren't already there). 82nd had a field chow set up serving UGR's. better than the chow halls most of the time.

I don't know about the Army, but your company 1st Sgt can opt you out in the Marines.

I think ours was some type of pasta dish. It actually didn't taste too bad. The green beans though....

I always had good luck at Niagara, Monti was ok, Far East Sucked, and Cambridge was breakfast(Sometimes for dinner) since it was close to the NATO tents.

That didn't bother me so much as the food being utter shit on Kaneohe Bay. I'd look at my options and try to figure out what I was supposed to eat to match my workouts and build my body. The vegetables were usually bland and looked old. The entrees usually consisted of "enriched" white flour casseroles or stews, fried meat, and two types of white potatoes. But hey, you can get all the "chilli" and nachos you want.

My 1st Sgt had to order me to eat two meals a day. Honestly at the end, I was getting ill from it. The day the cooks "made" "lasagna" was the closest I came to crying tears of joy. I practically ate a whole tray myself.

My first deployment we spent some much time on patrols and had such a shortage of food at the COP pretty much everyone lost 20-35lbs. Had a buddy that was drinking 4-5 protein shakes a day to maintain weight.
