Mom got it this weekend and I visited to check on her and I may have caught it from her ( the bug that caused it).  But a teacher at my daughter's school also got it pneumonia.

This sucks.  It isn't even major, caught it early and am on a serious antibiotic.

Any good stories or recovery times.

I had pneumonia when I was a kid. I thought I was on death's doorstep. I had zero energy and vomited anything I tried to keep down. After one of my Dr's appointments, my mother had to literally carry me to the car because I simply couldn't walk anymore. I think I was sick/bedridden for two weeks. Hang in there and good luck.

I had it back in April It took me a month and three visits to the Doc to get rid of it. Hope you have better luck with than I did.

My mom got pneumonia last year.  Had to be hospitalized due to the pain of breathing.  Took her months before she really felt like she could breathe well.

It's hell.  I hope you and your mom nip it in the bud.

Thanks!  Mom actually did go to the hospital, thought it was a heart attack, it came on that quickly.  They gave me 10 doses of 750 mg Levaquin

Had it about 10 years ago, it was the sickest I have ever been in my whole life. I lost 11 pounds in 3 days, coughed up blood, 105 degree fever, the works. Make sure you follow up with your doctor after antibiotics are through, I did not do this and it came back. I was almost feeling normal again after about 3 weeks, it took me about 3 months to get my wind back (running, martial arts, etc.) to where it was before. It is no surprise to me that in excess of 50% of pneumonia cases resulted in death in the days before antibiotics. It is no joke. Funny part was, I went in on off hours to my doctor's office, he wasn't in so I was seen by another doc who does not know my (former) profession as a deputy sheriff. When he asked me if I had been around any sick people, I told him, "you know, a few days ago I did have this filthy prostitute in my car, she was coughing a lot". He was stunned into silence until I realized how it sounded and told him I was a cop, and the contact was a "professional" one. Then he laughed his ass off. Get rest, drink ridiculous amounts of fluids, eat yogurt to counter antibiotics killing all the good bacteria in your gut, and you will feel better soon.

My girl's had it for 2 weeks, is taking clindamycin, and it's still going strong.

I've been exposed to her the whole time. Nothing. Not even a sore throat. Knock on wood.

I do have a follow up next thursday for another xray.

Mine is pretty high in the lungs, so....hopefully it will get better soon.

I got it bad late last winter.

I try not to take antibiotics unless it's an emergency.

After 5 straight days of me actually getting worse, and 3 days straight of 103-104degree fever.......yeah

Once I got on the antibiotics, I started to improve within  a few days. Took probably a month for me to get all the way better, and stop smelling really funny when I sweated

Usually I might get a bit of a bug (cold?) once or twice a year, but I'll be better in a few days. And I usually don't miss work because of it.

That shit made me feel like I was dying.

Hope you get better soon, try to get plenty of fluids, sleep, and try to eat . (I know....we all know this)

Probably not what you want to hear, but it sounds like since you caught it early, you'll have an easier time than I did.

Had it 30 years ago - bad.  On the positive side, it 'helped' me quite smoking - never have picked it (both the illness or cigarettes) again.

I damn near died of pneumonia in 2006.  Two weeks in the hospital on an "experimental" IV antibiotic that the insurance company would not pay for is what saved my life.  Went into the ER Saturday morning, with one look the doc said "You aren't going anywhere soon."  Tuesday I woke up hearing the Doc telling my wife that I might not pull through because I had not showed any improvement, and the specialist hospital had said they could not do anything else if I was to be transferred there.

Luckily I did turn the corner later that day.  But I wasn't good enough to get discharged for another week and a half.  And then it was "Stay home and recover for another month."  I never had felt that sick and weak ever before and I hope I never feel that way again.

Take care and do what the docs say to get over your case.  You really don't want it to get the upper hand by your over exerting and presenting the bug an opportunity.

I spent a week in the hospital last November with double pneumonia.
It came close to killing me.
You can take the pneumonia shot, but there are more than 60 some types of the bug.
Bad stuff!

Had it in basic along with everybody else in the company at Ft.  Dix in the winter of 1966.  It killed a guy
in the company next to ours.  Just barely passed the final PT test on my second try.  Found out I had it
with a chest X Ray when leaving after AIT.  Ah to be 19 and dumb again.  Knew of course I was sick
but was afraid to get recycled.

I'm still recovering from the case I got the week before the 4th of July.  I'm finally to the point I can climb a flight of stairs without  being out of breath, but not much more.
REST REST REST

And I mean the in bed 20 hours a day kind of rest.

Pneumonia is no joke. Treat it aggressively and follow doctors orders.

I had walking pneumonia in 03/07 after I was misdiagnosed as just having a bad case of bronchitis. Took a couple months to feel better.

In 08/08 I caught a virulent strain of pneumonia that literally almost killed me. Two weeks in the hospital on oxygen and the entire medical team stumped because for days I was just degrading. Ungodly huge doses of Levofloxacin is what finally helped me, downside is it ruined my left achilles tendon for about three years.

Don't fuck around with pneumonia.

A few years back my Wife had it so bad that we thought she had a kidney stone, her WBC was in the 30,000 range, it's about the only time ive ever seen anyone HAPPY to have Pneumonia.   I have Chronic Bronchitis and ive been right on the edge of it developing a few times, but my doc has caught it before it got past the Whorking up green, tan and red streaked Lung Oysters, and loading me with Antibiotics.

do the full course of your antibiotics, dont stop until its done, no matter HOW Good you feel.  Oh, and go to the pharmacy and buy a package of those probiotic capsules and take one every morning, your intestines will thank you, or eat a shitton of live culture yogurt if you can (I cant eat that shit myself).

Month or two about 3 years ago.

Didn't really know what was wrong until I felt so bad I took a trip to the ER.

Walking pneumonia.

And the Doc said it was mild to moderate. I would HATE to have severe!!111!!11!

I was swimming in 60 degree water @ 40 degrees ambient and couldn't keep my head above water.  Got out and started coughing up foamy blood.  Went to the doctors thinking I was dying and they said I had pneumonia.  They xrayed and kept trying to convince me that my lungs were burning - they weren't.  Gave me antis and I felt better the next day.

I don't think pneumonia has a time schedule like the flu.

Although you would think it to be a winter time illness.

One of my Facebook-firend's daughter died from it today.

Don't take these illnesses lightly, have it checked out by a doc, my friend is devastated.

Half way through ANCOC phase 1 at  Ft Dix NJ in the late 90s
Wound up in the hospital overnight but returned to the course and completed it so I wouldn't get recycled.
They refused to give me LOD paperwork for the illness, stating the incubation period indicated that I'd brought it to the school with me.

I still remember that breathing-through-a-wet-sponge sensation Never had it before, never had it since
My lung function has never returned 100%

Once you are 100% ask your doc about getting a Pneumovax injection.

It may help stave off a recurrence of pneumonia.
