This is my first, as I had never been able to find the nerve to write something that will go in a major local newspaper. I welcome vigorously any suggestions regarding anything in this letter:
As I observe the coverage of the murders in Maryland, I notice an all too familiar refrain. Even before any appreciable evidence had been gathered, government officials were hurrying focus nearly solely on the possibility that the murderer used an AR15 to the excusion of any other possibility. The government officials assured the public that this was absolutely not an act of terrorism, even before any evidence was gathered about what was taking place.
It is astonishing that in this time of national crisis, there are groups that continue to blame the gun for violence, and follow that up with a call for stricter regulation, or even gun or ammunition bans.
There is no doubt in my mind that this country is in great danger, when the response of the majority to attacks is not one of seeking ways to combat the threat, but rather to remove the tools by which the threats can be combatted.
