I know...I know. Politics as usual...but, how bout a lil' moral support? Like keeping the mouth closed.

TORONTO (Reuters) - Canada will not back the United States if it decides to launch a pre-emptive strike to oust Iraqi President Saddam Hussein ( news - web sites), Deputy Prime Minister John Manley said on Sunday in an interview during CTV's "Question Period."

 

Manley said Canada was not willing to become involved in a U.S.-led strike on Iraq because there was not sufficient evidence that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction or of any link to al Qaeda.

"As for going in and changing the regime, as opposed to going in and ensuring that there are no weapons of mass destruction, we haven't signed on to that," Manley told CTV.

"They'd be going in without Canadian support, but I'm not so sure they'd be going in alone," he added.

Canada has been urging the return of U.N. weapons inspectors to Iraq to ensure the country is not developing weapons of mass destruction, Manley said.

Manley's statement echoes earlier comments made by Canadian Foreign Minister Bill Graham, who told Reuters on Friday that Canadian troops would not join the U.S. in an attack on Iraq if Washington did not provide enough justification.

come on, big whoop.  its not like canada's military is the worlds most bass ass.  U.S. and Brits, are all we need. Canada will comprimise with the brits, and turn out to help us anyway.  Primier Crechin (sp) you suck!!  

Heh, I remember in 1990, a funny episode of "Firing Line", William F. Buckley's old show on PBS.  This episode was shot at Canada's MacGill University, and the Canadian students in the audience were not very enthusiastic about the possibility of American military action.

One student stood up and asked indignantly "Why does the United States think it has the right to go around the world like a policeman, forcing it's will on other countries?"

Buckley replied that if nothing's done to stop militaristic dictators, other strongmen around the world get the message no one will stop them, either.

"And if America wont stop them, who will?  Canada?"

Given the number of terrorists processed through Canada and into the US you'd think they'd feel a wee bit responsible...
Then on the other hand when the nuke strike terror attack comes...it wont be on Canadian soil but on US...
Like most socialists govts...the people are for the most part decent...and exert little  if any control over their politico's reasoning ..kinda like us when we had that traitor in the white house ..imagine the policies we'd be augmenting with gore or clinton in the drivers seat...
