What does the hive say of these endless 'murican buffets we so graciously build amongst our cities?

My dad loves GC. I've been with him before when the steak was good and bad. When it was good, I'm surprised I didn't get gout sitting at the table. Mostly just a lot of bland, fatty food though.
Yes, you can post a poll.
I think they are "meh." Not great, not terrible. Depends quite a bit on the clientele at your particular location. |
Chocolate Fountain! That's all I got though. Its not any cheaper than a regular restaurant.
i ate golden corral last week. it wasn't bad. it also wasn't awesome. but for all I could eat steak it wasn't bad.
their little ice cream bar wasn't too bad. |
I can eat alot but when I am in those places and see the lard asses that stuff them selves endlessly it makes me sick and I hardly eat. So it disgusts me.
I can't stand Golden Corral.
One visit is proof enough of what fat slobs we have become. Obese people crowded around the garbage food, while the line at the salad bar is practically non-existent. |
I've been there several times. Work meetings were held there.
It was just ok I guess. I'll be fine if I never go back. I bet it would be great if I was hammered drunk. |
Slop chutes for cheap ass Yankees, southern white trash, ham radio operators, and lard asses in general
Americans just eating the crappy, unhealthy food the rest of the civilized world won't.
Their breakfasts can be pretty decent. Our boss took us there the week before Christmas for breakfast and their omelet station was pretty neat. The one we go to is in an upper crust area, so maybe it's better than others.
They're okay from time to time. I'm in money saving mode so I'd rather eat at home just because of that, but I don't think they're complete and total shit.
I think it tastes like shit - but, on top of that, people are filthy animals. Scummy people drip their nastiness into the food and contaminate the serving utensils. Nose picking, finger licking, ass scratching.... then they grab a spoon and ladle the shit on their plate, often times when returned - the utensil just gets plopped into the serving tray, handle and all. There are not too many levels of nastiness left to witness, after seeing human behavior at the 'Hog n' Trough'.

I like to go once a year or so. Sometimes you hit it right and they have good steak and the buffet selection is pretty good. Other times, everything sucks.
Most of my visits have been the latter. |
There's something about buffet Mac n cheese. Thats about it, though.
We go to Ryan's now and then. The food is good but not great. They do always have a good variety, which is probably their best feature.
SOMETIMES the apple cobbler is nearly as good as grandma used to make. |
Nice salad bars, decent cooked starches and vegetables, meat is hit or miss (mostly miss), desserts are low quality.
Old Country Buffet out here. I think its a sister company to GC. Its ok. We used to go a lot when the kids were young because they are kid friendly.
The food is ok. really ,what do you really expect for $10 buffet, lobster and crab??? |
Our local GC has been shut down twice for health violations over the last couple years.
Last time I took the family there was about 4 years ago. My daughter got violently ill afterwards. Haven't been back since. I'm a people watcher, so I never had much of an appetite while we were there. The kids liked it, though. Well, until that last time. The place probably needs to be burnt down. Haven't had a Ryan's around for a while. Did like the rolls with honey butter. But I can do that at home, and it's much safer. |
The gf and I went to a GC near our place last year. I had driven by it thousands of times and seen how busy / full the parking lot always was and figured it must be decent food.
Bear in mind my gf is 100lbs ( no leg humping pics so don't ask ) and eats like a tweety bird so buffetts are not high on our list when it comes to eating out. Never the less gave it a try ... The dining room farm yard was a mess / dirty floors ( not to mention not so clean looking patrons ). The food pig slop was instututionalized low budget cafeteria style on it's best day. All in all was a pretty shitty experience. Price was around $25-30. About the same as we would spend at all of our favorite eat out places and not have the hassles of serving ourself shit food. Never again |
Yes ma'am, I'll have the Escherichia coli and a side of botulism please.
We used to eat at Ryan's Steakhouse in Florida when we'd visit years ago when I was a kid. They always seemed alright. My favorite part was the dessert bar.
I've been to one or two Golden Corral restaurants as an adult and I wasn't impressed. I'm not really a buffet food type eater. I will eat a big meal like a 1 pound juicy burger, but I've just never been big on buffet's. |
Just plain shitty, because of the Ryan's steakhouse story.
Honestly I've never been to either of those places. |
All the national chain steakhouses went over a cliff when they all went buffet. I wouldn't set foot in one today.
I went once. Did not like their sneez shield installations, and really really really did not like seeing children with their hands in the salad, fruit, chocopud, etc.
However. We went during their brazilian stakehoos month. Of the food I did dare eat , i thought it was all very well prepared for a establishment like that. Did not see much of the stampeding elephant behavior so oft attributed to the patrons, but did notice a couple of Huts orbiting. I would go again, but I would try to game my arrival time to precede the presence of large numbers of little nose pickers. ETA: i thought it was much tastier than Old Country Buffett. My GF, being an urbane urban sophisticate from Chicago, had never been to these kinds of places, so I took her on a gastrotour of suburban buffett houses. |
I'm a garbage-gut; I eat cold Cambell's Condensed Chicken Noodle Soup right out of the can and the wife feeds me questionable leftovers from the fridge to determine how expired they are.
With that being said, I won't eat at a Hungry Heifer (Golden Corral) unless I'm literally starving and have no other option. Tomac |
Ryan's and Golden Corral are great if you enjoy feeding from a trough. Along with the unwashed masses. In the Augusta area they are pitiful.

There is a strong correlation between Walmart and GC customers, not surprising since here, at least, they tend to build them next to each other. Part of some grand plan?
I might go to GC once a year, which pretty much reminds me of why I don't go there. Never really had a negative experience at one, though. |
Never understood the how the high price tag is even popular amoungst the economic bracket they cater too.
$11 for slop the hogs garbage is pricey but somehow it's a good deal to broke ass hillbillies, ghetto trash, and illegals. |
Whats sad is that when you add only $3-6 more dollars to your budget you can eat some fantastic meals from any decent local restaurant.
I'm not going to be a elitist, GC works for lower income family's with lots of kids. In all honesty tho your better served learning how to cook and stop eating out all the fucking time. |
At my house they are all affectionately called "the hog trough".
I've never eaten at a Golden Corral. They just opened around here in the last couple of years.
I'll NEVER eat at another Ryan's. We were coerced into eating at one down south a few years back and the place was absolutely fucking disgusting. Never again. |
The first I heard of Ryan's was here, never seen one. Golden Corral is okay.
It sounds like most of you guys eat only 1 or 2 plates. The goal is to eat 7-8 plates of the food that doesn't suck there. IE: pot roast, turkey, steak burgers, dirty rice.
Never been to either.
If I were to try one out, am guessing the time to fo would be right when they open, and before they are contaminated by everyone fingering the food - or is it pre-diseased? |

Not good.
The Chocolate Wonderfall of Mass Infection & Plague scares the living shit out of me. The salad is sprayed with some kind of dysentery inducing treatment, as what happens in the bathroom after a salad bar salad is horrific and evil, while I can eat salad at home without issue. I'd trust the stuff coming out of the kitchen most of the time, but I don't think I'd order any rare burgers. I have not eaten at a Golden Corral/Ryans/Sizzler in over a decade, and I don't plan to break that streak any time soon. |
I am a food snob. The rolls and the bread pudding made from the rolls is quite good. Salad bar is low average, the rest, awful.

Poop thread?!?! Damn man thank you. I was losing all hope. |

Golden Corral opened in town sent 150 people to the hospital, I will pass on cheap food laced with crap!
