The Sandy Hook school-shooting kickback has hit the Hamptons.

Angry parents at an East End school, with students from kindergarten through eighth grade, have demanded that local cops stop firing their guns at a target range across the street from their frightened kids.

I'd rather the cops get their range time. Like the article said, the range has been there for years. I think the shock factor has eased off for most that live there, but it does a good job of spinning up controversy everywhere else.

Why do the cops still have guns? Their guns could be taken away by a bad guy. I bet they don't have weapon-retention training commensurate with their range time. Give them sticks, not firesticks.

Didn't they try to demonstrate that for a group after an off duty police officer shot and killed a drug dealer. I believe it was a female officer and she was being knocked backwards and she drew and fired as she fell striking the guy in the head. Googlefu is turning up nothing. They went after her for intentionally going for a "Killing" shot.

The non stop exploitation of the tragedy by the media continues to sensitize kids (and their parents) to fear firearms..basically a trauma based psy-op

Hell, when I was in 6th grade (Elementary age, some places) we took a field trip to a military range where we all got to shoot .22 revolvers and even fire a few bursts from a tripod-mounted machine gun of some sort (I don't remember what it was). After we were all done, they let us go scoop up a handfull of brass and links and showed us how to link the brass back together so we'd have a cool souvenir. Best field-trip ever! And I don't think anyone cried.
