The last few times I rode, I felt my age catching up with me, and it seemed like my reflexes were not good enough any more. So, I figured I'd best sell the BMW before I got myself into bad trouble. The new owner is flying out from Arizona this weekend, and plans to ride it home from Georgia. Once, I could do stuff like that. The picture below was taken on a trip to New England a few years ago.

So long, old friend. I'll miss you.

I understand and I empathize.

Mine's going up for sale in February. Arthritis in my neck just makes it too painful to ride any more.

I am sad.

I did exactly the same thing last year. I love motorcycles but felt I wasn't on top of it as I was when I was younger. I began to stress about it and decided to take a break. I think it has evolved into a permanent break.

I'd have traded a PTR-91, M14, 9mm AR, and maybe a 6.8 AR for that... :P

OP, how old are you? Dad quit riding when he was 68, he probably would have ridden a few more years if he had downsized a bit from his KZ 1300 and Mom didn't have cancer. He was more concerned with weight and slow maneuvers, something I've seen with several other older riders also. He still misses riding though, I see him look longingly at my bike when I ride over to his house to see him, he really enjoyed riding the secondary roads in the country.

Don't be afraid to consider a scooter. I am up to 9 bikes now... one of them is a Honda CT90. The other scooter, a Yamaha 400 Majesty, will do interstate speeds. Burgman 650s will hang on the interstate all day long.

Yup, did the same thing about ten years ago. I've been riding since I was about 5. My pops was a biker from way back, early 1950's. Last time I dumped an off roader, I realized that I didn't bounce anymore. Just hit and stick. The final straw was some lady who pulled out and stopped about 40 yards ahead of me playing on a cell, when I was going down a two way straight away. I had to lean the bike down so low I could have kissed the pavement. When I brought her back up I was in the other lane and again, about 40 yards away from a semi coming along. Same deal only to the right. That was it. To many toys for the bubble heads to play with. I drove past my house, over a bridge to a local dealer and sold it. I walked home.

This was my last one and the subject of above. Not exactly a small to do trick driving on. 600 lbs empty of all fluids. If you take a close look you'll see oddities line she's all chromed out including the fenders. Slash exhausts with no baffles. The outer rings around the horns were plated in gold and so on. Damn thing could haul ass for a cruiser. Do I miss it? On occasion. Will I ride again? I don't think so for the same reasons I gave it up before.

Mine is going up for sale when it warms up. I like riding, but it is not my thing. I bought it to hang out with dad, because all that man does is ride, but our schedules rarely match up.

I sold my BMW and my Triumph about two years ago. All my riding buddies sold their bikes and besides, riding around Dallas is just damned scary. I bought a 1980 CJ5 project to ease the pain.

I'm 34 and considering selling my 99' Superglide Sport. Between deployments and DC traffic ownership is almost more of a headache than it is worth.

Sold mine too, earlier this year.

I've been riding dirtbikes, streetbikes, and quads since I was 12. Have owned several over the years, and participated in a couple races and poker runs. Tore my ACL on the quad several years ago. Good thing I had good health insurance, because the total for everything was around $12-15k. Out of pocket was less than $3k.

Ever since then, I've been much more conservative when riding.

Then, I had a daughter.

Then, my dentist died in a motorcycle wreck on his way to a church group meeting.

Another friend is a nurse at a hospital, there's only 1 rule for her husbands toys: "No motorcycles"

After numerous close calls, and most recently another close call riding up a steep shale rock trail.

I've decided to bag it.

Risk tolerance is decreasing.

Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

The risks for me, are starting to outweigh the reward. Almost every time I ride someone cuts me off or a semi comes around a curve in my lane.

I don't have the expendable income to do regular track days or race, so I'm thinking of selling my last remaining bike in the spring.

One day I realized I would die if I kept riding. So I sold the Harley and ZX-11.
Now 10 years later, about twice a year I decide to buy a Hayabusa, but have so far managed to change my mind before pulling the trigger.

A friend of mine rode across the US solo at 81. He, and a number of other friends who were all in their 70s and 80s used to take a little Sunday morning ride every week. I used to join them off and on for many years. They served as an inspiration to me, both as to how gentleman behave, and that you can continue to enjoy riding well into advanced years. Sadly, they have all been gone for years now, but they continue to ride along with me, so to speak.

I had 7 motorcycles in the garage at one time. Big time BMW fan. My last one was a 1986 R100S. I had a K100, but I really liked the old twins much better. Had a brain tumor removed a few years ago and I cannot ride any more. I wish I still had the R100S just to look at it. Damn, I really miss ridding, bench racing with my buddies, long breakfast trips on a Sunday morning...just lots of fun. Used to travel down into Mexico. It is a great hobby. What are you going to do to replace it?

I sold all three of mine about 4mo after I moved into the city. I loved riding my motorcycles when I was in the country, but in the city there are too many people out there on cell phones, and yelling at kids, all trying to kill you.

I'm selling my bike in the spring because every other person on the road is an asshole with a phone in front of their face.

. Public roadways are MUCH more dangerous now than ten years ago because of these dipshits.

Didn't your father teach you, never sell a boxer twin (unless it is a cruiser style with which they tried to fleece the American market).
