So what is really Obama's tour about? Apparently a get-out-of-town photo-op all about himself as a means of avoiding pressing problems back home. The Asians deserve better — and so do the Americans. While I agree with the article, it's also wrong.
We sampeah to show a sign of respect to our elders or to the monks of the watt. The higher the hands and lower you bow means the higher respect you're giving. I'm more pissed that she's actually giving him respect. |

She's about 58 years old and the ladies I know in that age range do it much the same way. You rarely see ladies bend over far and lift their hands high unless it's at watt (temple). Hell I'm 31 years old and I don't bow down too far or lift my hands much higher either. It's not to show disrespect to my elders but usually it's because it's done in passing as my parents are introducing me to new people in their conversations. |
