"Description:More than $7 million in gold coins was found in an elderly man's home after he passed away Walter Samaszko Jr. was 69 years old when he died from heart problems in June. But he was reclusive and rarely interacted with neighbors. His body was not found until one month after his death. After Samaszko's house was about to be put up for sale, the realtor and a neighbor went through the house to look at some of Samaszko's belongings. That's when they struck gold. (1:08)"

Sounds like the old guy didn't have any friends or family. The .gov strikes it rich without having to do anything at all.

I wouldn't feel bad keeping it in that circumstance since the .gov will as well but no way could two people keep that a secret.

I'm more surprised that AOL is still around.

Well, that is one very good example of when doing the right thing, is undoubtedly the wrong thing.

The unknown distant relative doesn't deserve any of that money, and neither does the government.

The neighbor should have disappeared that ammo can.   He could have donated half to Wounded Vets or the charity of his choice.  What a dumb ass.

If you bothered to watch the video clip, there is a cousin who will inherit the gold.

Absolutely.

Like Jack Handey said, when I die, all I want people to say about me is, "Boy, that guy sure owed me a lot of money."

Yep, simply more to be redistribuited to the FSA.

That said as there was a fucking realtor involved in the find I guess the neighbor did the right thing. How much you want to bet that the realtor was the fly in the ointment as far as them keeping it all on the QT.
