Yes. was a Sgt in the unit I was in (back in 89). He got it through a transfusion.

I was a college freshman in 1986. All the propaganda that we were subjected to said that AIDS would be running rampant in the straight community within 10 to 15 years. That would be 1996 to 2001. <crickets chirping> "Bueller? Bueller?" I have a lot of gay friends. AIDS is one of those subjects that I will NEVER discuss with them. |

I did. He died in '94 or so, and looked like a bag of wrinkled skin over a skeleton just before he expired. Poor bastard.
Toward the end, he was so weak, he could only get around if someone pushed him in his wheelchair. Supposedly,from IV drug use. He wasn't gay. His high school sweetheart married him less than a year before he passed away. She didn't want him to die alone. |

I knew a white hetero male once that wasn't an IV drug user who got HIV through a blood transfusion after a car wreck. I later found out that there was no car wreck, he never had a blood transfusion, he once had a roommate, a white male gay man who later found out he had HIV.
Obviously a blood transfusion is one way to contract the disease, but it is also a convenient way for men who have had anal sex, or used IV drugs that don't want to admit to one or both. |

One took a cocktail of drugs and looked healthy, and the other was freshly diagnosed with it. Magic Johnson looks the same as he did when he disclosed he had contracted HIV, while the person he contracted it from has been dead for years. I guess prescription meds and the money to afford good health care make all the difference. |

A friend of mine from Austin said that she knew a good number of people with AIDS. But, it came from pretty stupid stuff. As one example, one of her friends got drunk at a party, and decided that she wanted to be nailed by 100 dudes that night. She didn't make 100, but got close. And HIV as well.
