Installing a railed gas block is much cheaper than the loss you'll take on your rifle when you "trade up".

Another vote here to just keep them. As long as they are doing what your asking of them, if not, maybe modify them a little? BM's are just fine in my book.

Keep them, buy a stripped lower, and build the "perfect" AR for your needs from there. Either that, or take one of the Bushy's and tweak whatever you want on it.

My Bushmaster never ate steel well at all... I sold it to furnish a LaRue Stealth.

I carry a personally owned Bushmaster heavy barrel carbine at work. Its gone bang everytime I've pulled the trigger on the range during qualifications and training. It shoots as well as the department issued DPMS's and the smattering of other brands of approved AR's on the range. From what I've seen if you keep good rings and springs in the bolt and check the gas tube staking, they run well.

I have asked this question to myself many times. I bought a Bushmaster back in 05 I believe. At the time it was between a Colt match and the Bushmaster. The dealer gave me a pretty good deal on the Flat top bushy so I took it. One problem that I have with the Bushy is that the comp is pinned and welded. So adding any sort of free float rail is impossible unless I have a lot of smith work done.
The other thing that bothers me is that the 16 inch upper doesnt have extended M4 feed ramps. Not really sure why it bothers me but it does. I decided to keep it. maybe change it up a little with a new upper or just put a drop in Knights RAS. |
