I recently found Winchester 40 pks of 55gr .223 for $7.47 at Wal-Mart (I know, bad!).  Anyways, since I'm into instant gratification, I like to buy ammo and have it in my hand that instantly therefore I buy it at Wal-Mart or Sportsmans Warhouse and pay a tiny bit more.  But enought of that, on to what the thread is about.  When I go to buy ammo I buy quite a bit and I have noticed that I get allot of funny looks from the idiots behind and in front of the counter.  Does anyone else get this?

last time i went to walmart i bought 120rds of .223 and 100rds of 9mm.  when the clerk asked if it was for a handgun i told him to just click no.  heheh.  i don't get funny looks..maybe it's where you live.

The kid at the cash register at Sports Authority looked scared yesterday when I bought 400 rounds of 9mm. I think he is new. But they had it for $5.99/50 for Winchester. That is a lot better than the gun shop that I went into that wanted to charge me $13.95/50 for Wolf.

The only time I got funny looks was when I stopped at a wally-world to pick up 500 rounds of winchester 9mm, 2500 rounds of federal .22lr in the bulk packs, and 4 cases of beer.... THAT was a FUN weekend!

Dumb broad had to ask for my ID EVERY TIME the machine prompted her to...

I don't buy ammo from Wal-Mart anymore, but I did once.  The exchange went like this.

Me:  I'd like 4 boxes of those Winchester 9mm ammo.  (keep in mind it was FMJ WinClean practice ammo)
Clerk: Wow! 4 boxes!  Do you plan on shooting someone. [chuckle]
Me:  Nope.  It's practice ammo.  If I wanted ammo to shoot someone I'd be getting hollow points.
Clerk:  Oh. [look of confusion]

Why do these dumb asses think that buying more than 1 box at a time is suspicious?  Hell, I burn more than 4 boxes of handgun ammo every time I go to the range.

The above exchanges, particularly the (unfortunatly probably correct) impression that the clerk thought anything over one box was suspicious, should be kept in mind.  Add that to the "keep an eye out for suspicious transactions" already in place in the banking industry.  All you need is the idiots in congress saying, "Hey, let's have suspicious ammunition sales monitored and reported." "After all, that's what they do in banking."  Now, someone in Wally world with the IQ of a storm drain will be passing judgement.

I here ya.

Once at a gun show I got a great deal on 7.62-39.Two cases of 1440 rounds.I was so happy, till I started carrying it out.Of course I had too park my car in the back forty, and I was wearing a backback full of other shit.Needless to say I only got a couplea hundred feet.God! Those things must have weighed a hundred pounds apeice! And the little, skinny metal handle on the case wasn't doing my hands any favors.Jeez I felt stupid for not thinking ahead.

Luckily a good samaritan saw my dilema and gutted out the rest of the way with one of the cases for me,but I don't think he was too happy about it.He gave me that "WHY DUMBASS?" look when we were done and he took off.

One gun store near my parent's house wanted me to sign a "waiver of liability" form before they would sell me ammo. I politely told them where they could file the form and that I would take my business elsewhere. A lot of the gun shops around here have ridiculously high prices on ammo.

Some states or just store policy restrict the purchase of handgun ammo by age.  NYC restricts the purchase of ammo to only the caliber of a registered rifle or handgun!

The restriction on “handgun” ammo is silly as there are so many rifle/pistol calibers around.  If there is a rifle that’s chambered in that caliber they can’t restrict it.

I did that once.  Well, not exactly that way.  I went to the service desk of Wally World and asked them where the ski masks, shotguns, and ammo was in the store.  They told me, and after collecting three cases of shotshells and a ski mask I went to the checkout where two Augusta County sheriff's deputies were waiting.  It was a damn good thing I knew the guys or I would have been in a world of shit.  As soon as they saw me and the evil grin, they knew it was a practical joke and started chuckling.  They helped add effect by slapping on handcuffs and escorting me out of the store to the parking lot where we spent almost ten minutes laughing about it.  I actually got the 911 tape from one of the dispatchers.  It's a hoot.  The woman of the phone (who I could recognize as the woman I asked) was freaking hysterical.

I was truly surprised they were smart enough to figure it out though.

I often get my ammo from WalMart.  Never had any problems.  It's always the same elderly gentleman working the gun/ammo counter.  He doesn't bat an eye.  Even when he asks "how many boxes?" and I reply "how many do you have?".
I wanted to buy ammo at the local "gun store".  It's much closer to my house.  However when I went in for pistol ammo (.40 s&w) they only had 3 choices.  All of them crap and overpriced.

I normally get strange reactions, I go open carry. They brains normally lock when I ask them for ammo with a gun in a holster. What was even funnier was when I bought my wife's .22 at Dick's. They had to walk me out of the store with them holding the .22 "because I might freak out and use it in the store" but it didn't bother them that I had a .45 on my side open carry.

Wally world here in Mesa is great. No stupid questions, and the guy behind the counter actually knows something. [:D]

As for gun shows, I've never bought bulk (then again, at my age, I always have to have a parent with me. [:(]), but I've never had a problem either, even at my "tender" age. I do all the talking, and things go smoothly.

As for the price of .223, is $3.50 to $7.00 a box a good price, depending on brand (the $3.50 was Winchester, don't recall what the higher-end stuff was)? The local gun shows seemed to have good prices on .223, but until I actually have an AR and try the different brands through the gun, I'll never know which is best for me. Thanks!

A friend and I bought some shot gun shells at a Meijer in Indianpolis on the way to the range to shoot clay pigeons.  Lady (bagger) at the check out counter asks "So, are you guys going to go kill something?"  I responded only clay targets.  My friend said that he only shot at what the voices in his head tell him too.  She walked away with her nose in the air.

Some people were given brains at birth, they just haven't figured out what they are used for yet.

Only one time. It was at a gun show a few years ago when all the rumors were flying about ammo being banned, shortages etc. One of my shooting buddies and I decided we were going to stock up and take advantage of the prices some of the vendors had on quanitys so we showed up early and stood in line with a four wheel dollie cart. When the show opened we rolled it in, asked the good folks running the show if it was OK (They said it was) and by the time the show was 3 hours old we had the following:(If I remember correctly)

6000 rds. 223. FMJ
5760 RDS. 7.62X39 FMJ
4000 RDS. 7.62X51 FMJ
3000 RDS. 9MM FMJ
3000 RDS. 45ACP FMJ

It was great!!! We got everybody's attention, the show people, the LEO'S on duty, and all the people who saw us making the 2 trips out to the pickup. We expected to draw some attention from some people (LEO'S) but some of the stares of the gun people really suprised me.

We spent the rest of the day looking around and watching some of the LEO'S watch us.

What did we spend????? DON'T ASK.....
I was in the "Doghouse" for a month.LOL!!!!!

Damm, that's funny. Better not let him have that unloaded .22. He might hold up the store with it even though he has a loaded .45 at his side. You have to wonder how these people manage to make it to adulthood without being hit by a bus or something.
