I'm scheduled to give the eulogy at a funeral, and while I'm not worried about finding things to say, I'm having trouble figuring out how to end it. It's not like there's going to be an applause or anything. Do I just say a prayer at the end? I don't know.

Round here it would probably end "Here we go Steelers, here we go"

Always end it with a joke.

Maybe a political one.

I gave one this past Saturday for a good friend of mine that got killed in a motorcycle wreck being stupid. The last part of it was addressing him about the mark he left on me his family and friends and the final sentence was "rest easy my brother; we will see you on the other side"

If you and the deceased have agreeable religious beliefs, I'd go with the prayer.  If not, pick out a poem or a quote.

I know he is in a better place and mostly I'm just feeling sorry for myself right now.

I want a closed casket ceremony(without me in it) just so about halfway through the funeral, the lights dim, and my lifeless body comes prancing out tied to strings like a marionette. The whole puppet act. Yep, that'll be in my will.

Prayer is always a good exit strategy! The Amen is a signal of closing. People will follow that lead especially when you exit the the podium afterward. Another nice touch is to say "thank you for attending the celebration of my grandfathers life this concludes the service". Then gracefully exit the podium.

God Bless you I'll keep you in my prayers.

A heartfelt "you will be missed" is always appropriate.

If it's poetry you want:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

But if it's humor you're after....

Or, speak to the minister for the funeral beforehand and arrange a respectful "handoff" so he can deliver a prayer........

My mom completely lost it at my father's funeral. She went from giving a generally stoic and elegant eulogy to screaming my father's name, begging him to come back and kicking the casket stand while pounding on his chest. It was .... odd .... I'd say if you can keep from doing that, you'll be fine.

A strong quote is was I'd use to end it.

And if I'm writing any type of speech, I'm aiming for applause.

Something stupid from the internet like "When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile. "  People will like it.

I'll give you how I summed up my dad's eulogy.

I could ramble on for hours about my opinions regarding my father. Some of my friends will be forced to hear most of it at some point. But I picked this very narrow avenue to illustrate the goodness and the impact of my father. He has done so much for so many. I pray every single night that I have done justice by him, and that I will be able to do so for the rest of my life. My future wife and children will never know him, but I hope I can convey his essence to them through my character and my actions.

A very big part of me is going into the ground today. I prayed to my heavenly Father that He have mercy on my father’s soul. No one is perfect. In my father was a great man. In my father was a servant for God’s children.

I will ponder my own salvation with fear and trembling. And I will remember my father for the good, just, and honest man he was.

Even so, it is well with my soul.

Funerals in my mind, are totally bizarre and insane.
I just want the part at the cemetery.
Viewing a dead body in make up and a suit just drives the people that love them insane.
That is what you will remember about the person, at least I do.
I am 51 and the viewing still creeps me out beyond belief.
I threatened to haunt my wife if she dresses me up for everyone to look at.
ONe of the funniest funeral scenes i have seen is East bound and down when Kenny Powers goes to his friends funeral.
That really made me laugh until I couldnt catch my breath.
