Just to let you all know, "Social Welfare" is often a blanket term for interior state topics in other countries. Often, that includes justice systems, internal public issues, health, business relations, etc.

India needs it.
There are many that would LOVE to own guns, but because they were a UK proxy for so long , their current constitution still reflects living below the king. There are quite a few Indian gun websites out there where they are trying to organize to fight for reforms. I know of few gun owners over there. |

You do realize that guns were minimally regulated in the UK (less than in the U.S. today, for certain) when the laws for British India were passed, right? It has nothing to do with "being beneath the king." It had to do with the rebellions and preventing them from having weapons useful for rebellion as the British saw it. The laws were wrong, but that is what their purpose was and they were not changed when India became independent. |

That's pretty neat.
Do you suppose the memory of the 2008 Mumbai attacks might make this appealing to the citizens, so that they don't have to rely on police with .303 rifles? Not saying they will always be able to stop those kinds of attacks (especially the bombs) being armed themselves, but in some situations it might even the odds. |
