Minority Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., today attacked House Republicans for
passing legislation that would allegedly "destroy 2 million jobs," as
her office claimed that the Obamacare repeal bill alone would "destroy
more than 300,000 jobs," according to her office.

Jobs don't matter. Efficient production matters. Obamacare is a massive misallocation of resources to inefficient uses. Allowing those resources to be allocated to the uses that people want the most (i.e., that produce the most profit) will allow a larger amount of desirable goods and services to be produced (while less-valued goods and services (i.e., government bullshit) will be produced less).

The result will be a net benefit to the US and to the world (and a loss to government functionaries and their shit-eating hangers on, which is always good).

Even if the jobs weren't govt jobs and were HMO jobs, that is good. Getting rid of the HMOs will reduce the cost of health care. HMO CEOs with their big bonuses do nothing but increase costs.

"Make work" for the sake of creating jobs is not an economically sound long term plan.

Employment is a problem that takes care of itself when you do the right things to promote economic growth. Any politician that uses jobs as the primary motivator for a piece of legislation is blowing smoke up your ass.

A year from now, the federal government will start collecting a new tax on medical devices from tongue depressors to imaging machines, thanks to the sweeping health-care overhaul that Democrats enacted in the spring of 2010. People in the industry say it’s already having an effect.

In November, citing the new tax, Stryker Corp. (SYK), whose products include artificial hips and knees, announced that it would let go about 1,000 of its workers. Earlier last year, Covidien Plc (COV), maker of surgical instruments, said it would lay off 200 workers in the U.S. and move production to Costa Rica and Mexico. It, too, cited the tax.

Other companies in the field have announced similar measures –– or plans to expand production overseas but not in the U.S. –– without mentioning the tax. The sluggish economy is clearly part of the explanation, but the medical-devices industry had been a relative bright spot within U.S. manufacturing, losing only 1.1 percent of its employees during 2007-2008 while manufacturing as a whole lost 4.8 percent. A study done for AdvaMed, a trade association for the industry, claims the tax could ultimately cost more than 45,000 jobs.
