I believe it only applies to handgun purchases. WA has a seperate form for handguns and a copy is mailed to the local city police or county pd. City if you are in city limits, ect. The rifles are just fill out the federal form. That's it.

Speaking from recent experiance (bought my first AR(stripped lower) a month ago). I only had to fill out the Federal form and pass the the NCIC(?). I don't have a experiance with handguns (not old enough yet - month and a half to go)

We have no registration. Dealer pistol tranfers are shipped to the state for.........?

Go to the Washington State home page (I have provided a link) law search page.

I'm going to be living in Pacific county. I haven't picked out a place to live yet though. Right now I'm in Idaho. Thanks for the info and links guys. I'm definately up for meeting any and all shooters in the area.

Well I will probably be one of the closest dealers to you. Depending on where in Pacific Co. there is a 500 meter range near by.

I live in WA, in Auburn between Seattle and Tacoma.
Only pistol sales get reported with the state. I don't deal in pistols so I don't really know about that. Rifles only need pass the NICS check and other federal regulations. If you need a dealer on this side of the mountains I deal in NFA weapons. I will give you a breif primer on them here: DD's legal Machine guns not legal Short barreled weapons not legal Silencers legal but you can't use them AOW's legal Signoffs near impossible unless you live in Snohomish, Yakima counties or in Wenatche. Seattle area it happens but not to civvies, just to buddies of the sherrif. I don't understand it but not many CLEO's sign or for that many people and that is the rule. Welcome to WA, looks like you got here just as many people are thinking about leaving to find work elsewhere. |

Welcome to WA, looks like you got here just as many people are thinking about leaving to find work elsewhere. Yea, well, what can I say? Things don't appear to be nearly as bad as they are in Kali or on the northern half of the east coast. The list of states I refuse to live in or even visit because of their gun laws keeps growing, however. [V] After browzing the links kindly provided by GEF, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being Idaho and 10 being Washington DC, looks like WA rates about a 3 as far as unconstitutional gun laws. I don't see any problems for me right now, but it looks as though I may have to give up dreaming about a few items. Damn. I may have to pick up a pistol or two before I leave Idaho though. 1GUNNER, I'd sure like to know where that range is. And if you have a shop I'd love to stop by and give you some business. don't know of any 500m ranges but there's Kenmore up in Bellvue and they have a 300yrd one (have to be a member though)

Welcome to the state.
I live in Arlington, a smaller town but growing rapidly. By where you are moving to I doubt that you will get up north here but.... I don't shoot at a range anywhere as there is plenty of wide open spaces IE. clearcuts that work just fine for shooting. [rail]Railgun.... |

Meaning, you cannot just go out in the woods and start plinking? Personally, I don't agree with that law and think it is ridiculous, but people should be aware of upon which side of the law their activities fall. Now for my question. Are handguns sales still reported to the local LE when the purchaser has a Concealed Pistol Locense? |

Big, I lived in Pacific County for many years and still have family down there. I lived in South Bend for awhile, then Raymond. Email me if you have any questions I might be able to answer to help you with your transition. You can drive out just about any logging road in Pacific County and shoot to your heart's content. It is nice to have a range finder since you can shoot some pretty long distances when out in the bush.
I would suggest joining the Washington Arms Collectors as soon as you get in state. They have a monthly show in Puyallup, which is among the largest and best in the nation. |
