Since I am the Grand Poobah of the Church of What's Happening Now I proclaim that Father Dr Attallah Hanna, official spokesman of the Orthodox Church in Jerusalem and the Holy Land; may wish to revisit his position on martydom and killing innocents.  It's just plain wrong and his thoughts may get him some justice from the [red]Church of What's Happening Next.[/red]

The Orthodox Church in the Holy Land. Do they count as Christians now as well.
I lump them in the same catagory as Catholic child molesters.

I see.  So now all of us Catholics are child molesters?

I agree they are a wack job, just like the Catholic church.

Interesting.  The two oldest Churches in Christianity are wack jobs.  Doesn't say much for those that sprung forth from them (read: every other Christian denomination).  Leave the Catholic-bashing (and now Orthodox-bashing as well) at home.

If they don't share the basic Christian view, then they are just a cult in my book.

And what basic Christian view is that?  Your basic Christian view, Luther's basic Christian view, Calvin's basic Christian view, Ellen G. White's basic Christian view, or the basic Christian view that has been around since the time of Christ and His apostles?

I know a woman, she married a Greek, so was to be baptized into thier church, she told me they debatedwhat she was to wear for the full immersion. She wanted a bathing suit under the robe, that becomes see through when wet....the Preist wanted her to be nude under it.
Also she said that at family parties, they regularly had porno movies on the TV, even with kids present. Oh and lastly they had lots of women are 2nd class attitudes and it was ok to touch a relatives wife.

I forgive you. [:D]

Also, try:  "A small minority of priests seem to be.  But not Catholics as a whole."  Highest estimate is that 5% have abuse kids.  It's 5% too much, but I believe that is still lower than the general population.

I'm having to deal with the priests at my parish being looked down upon and looked at suspiciously due to the sins of their brother priests.  The other 95% of priests are hurt by all this, too.

Also (x 2), I don't know what the heck is with that Orthodox guy.  I'm just glad the pope has condemned the suicide bombings.  Sounds like the Orthodox spokesman is playing politics of survival (fortunately, not all Orthodox Churches support suicide bomings).

Most of the Christians in the Middle East are caught in the middle.  The Israelis hate them because they're Palistinians, and the Muslims hate them because they're Christian.  One news report I read interviewed a Christian woman who lost her house to IDF dozers.  She said that the militants and snipers would use the Christian houses to shoot from (against the owners wishes, of course), knowing that the IDF would flatten it-- kill two birds w/ one stone.

At the risk of a flaming,

My opinion is that if you have a Major religious leader from one of the Original three Christian denominations (another poster left out the Coptic church) siding with the Palestinians, then the issue of middle-east violence and its the solution is not as simple as some posters here believe.

My 2 cents.

Not being Catholic myself, I was wondering what is a "special blessing"?  I am going to a wedding tonight and the coordinator said anyone could go up and get a special blessing from the priest?

Given the recent trouble the Catholics are dealing with, I think the term "special blessing" kinda sounds bad...On the other hand I think maybe I need one...I havent been good lately.

Wildcat,

Since you are not an RC, you cannot take communion in that church. What you can do is, get in line with the rest of the folks going up for communion and when you get there, the priest will say a prayer over you asking God to bless you.  That's all a special blessing is.

You do have to let the priest know in advance however. Otherwise, you'll get a Jesus cookie with the rest of the communicants.

The easiest way to let the priest know to give you a blessing is to cross your arms over your chest when you reach him (basically touch your shoulders with the opposite hand, making an X).

Can't honestly say that I know anything about this guy, but I have a strong hunch that he's either a turncoat to his own people, or he's saying this in an attempt to keep the Muslims who run things from (continuing) to terrorise and persecute the Christians in the Palestinian areas.  Look at the Israel's behavior during the seige at the Church of the Nativity.  According to all of the rules of sanctuary, those terroists had forfeited their right to asylum by bringing guns into the church, but the Israelis honored the claim.  He is right about one thing tho.  There are fewer Christian Arabs in the area now;  because the damned Muslims are persecuting them and driving them out.

LOL, G-man!

Ok, just for you, bro.
--------------------------
What I meant was simply and only this:

We hear of another suicide attack and many AR15.com members jump on the "kill 'em all" band wagon, and pretty blindly I will add. Let me just put my observations and beliefs.

-All people have the right to live in peace, free from fear.

-All people have the right to defend themselves.

-All people have the right to a representative government.

-Economic security makes people less inclined to fight.

-No religion or religious views should be forced on another person, nor should you be persecuted for yours.

-Justice is an integral part of peace.

Summation for Legrue:

I don't have an answer to mideast violence, but I don't think it is more violence. I think atrocities have been done on both sides. I think certain people on both sides are so blinded by hatred, that they will band TOGETHER to fight peace (Remember that one Star Trek Movie where the Federation and Klingon fanatics teamed up to sabotage the peace process?) I think that peace is truely in the interest of both palestinians and israelis.

Finally, in regards to this latest finagle, while I disagree strongly with any person that advocates violence to innocents to redress real or percieved injustices, I can at least understand WHY he said it.

An analogy is the WTC attack. I understand WHY the murderers think they were justified and I can look at reasons to REMOVE those justifications, even as I support Bush's efforts to hunt Bin Laden down and the rest of Al Qaida down.

LET ME REPEAT: If I had Bin Laden or any of those other SOB's in my sites, he would go down in a heartbeat. But I have to ask why do these people hate us? Some reasons given are pure BULLSH**, but some are not.

That is the reasoning behind my post.
--------------------------------------

So, g-man, if you were looking for a reasoned plan or position, I don't really have one here.
That is why I don't engage in mid-east thread pissing matches, because they are generally unreasoned and one sided.

"Let me make it clear that Muslims and Christians are one and cannot be separated from the struggle for the liberation of Palestine. We are Palestinians and Arabs," he said.

This is the key point: They are Palestinians and Arabs, and as such band together as other nationalities do irrespective of religion.

Obviously that wack job wasn't speaking infallibly (if the Greek rite has such a thing). I sincerely have no idea where he gets this. 40 years ago, if you commited suicide you couldn't even be buried in a Catholic cemetary - it was assumed that there was no way for you to avoid going to Hell if you commited suicide. Now it's thought that there might be some exceptions. Still a mortal sin though.

I was glad to see the Bishop of Rome come out and condemn the suicide bombings. 'bout time.

Interesting. The 3 or 4 Greek Orthodox guys I know are in full support of Palestine. Now it makes sense.

Any history buffs care to elaborate on the history behind the Orthodox Church's position?
