I'm 39...and going to be 40 in March.  I've never really noticed that big a change in much of anything..I lift, am active, etc.

THEN...I went to the range to zero my rifle with my new GRSC 1-4X scope...and when I took off the turrets...I couldn't read jack shit on the turrets..the numbers were all illegible, couldn't see the arrows for which way to turn, etc.

I thoughts it might just be the lighting, so I walked into the sunlight...and I still couldn't see jack shit...so I held the rifle away from me, and voila, it all came into focus.

Holy freaking batshit...the next thing you know, I'm going to get my prostate checked and I'll start needing viagra to keep things interesting for the wife unit.

Seriously..WTF.

Just wait, Bub- Oh, and you might as well save the $ on the Viagra- with everything else falling apart, that'll be the LAST thing she's interested in!

You stop noticing the middle aged moments as you get older, or maybe it's just that you stop remembering them.  At any rate it gets better...

Well, the upside is I heard Viagra goes generic in March of 2012.  So at least you'll be able to afford it.

Yes it does.  My hair is thinning and I have trouble reading the dates on coins (dimes & pennies mostly) but I still feel pretty damn good overall.

Not to worry, you won't remember in the first place.

I've just about given up iron sights on rifles because of cataracts. Luckily, it's not effected my shotgun shooting yet.

I made it till about 45, but then it was like a ball rolling off a table.  I grew up with 20/15 vision.  Now I can't do anything up close without glasses.  The one thing my glasses can't correct for is shooting handguns.  The target is far, but the sights are near.  Get used to blurry sights.  Say, maybe that Judge isn't such a bad idea...

Learning to accept diminishing skills is part of getting old, gracefully.

Just beware doctors will prescribe stuff for you that will seriously hurt you, and they cant even figure out that we need something like viagra for older women much more than we need it for old guys.

Or just some inexpensive drug store reading glasses, if you don't wear glasses or contacts already.

Congratulations, you are now a Presbyope.

It hit me at age 42, very suddenly it seemed.

20/16 visionall my life and at 40, close up went out of focus. I bought some cheapo reading glasses at first, then finally progressed to better quality glasses a few years later when a slight astigmatism was found in one eye. I'm 56 now and my glasses (and eyesight) have stayed the same since. Shit happens.

Welcome to the club  When I turned 40 I had to get glasses, see a chiropractor and ...ummmm...... there was..... shit ... anyway there was something else I had to do too ...but its not important The important thing is YOU"RE getting OLD.   And now that I am 50 .... what I wouldnt give to be 40 again!!!   Actualy if I could pick any age to be....it would probably be 43.  Still young enough to do anything you want....old enough to get some respect.....and that touch of grey the ladies like

Well...I've been thinking about this...my dad had elbow surgery at age 42...for an injury he suffered in his late 30's.  I recently hurt my elbow trying to bench press WAY too much weight.

At age 40...the same vision thing that happened to me, happened to him.

At about age 45, my dad developed irritable bowel syndrome, and I swear to God, he'd almost shit his pants after he ate anything for almost 10 years...it finally went away.

The next decade is going to be filled with shenanigans...that's for sure.

ETA: 56 years old - - went to varilux trifocals 10 years ago.  Had to give up shooting NRA Service Rifle and High Power "cause" I the damned sights were too blurry.  I could resolve the 600 yard target, but couldn't see the damned sights.  Shooting "glass" on a sports rifle competition just wasn't the same.  Getting old(er) really sucks.

I'm 47 and got my first pair of reading glasses about a year and a half ago.  I can still read all but the smalllest print without them, but I get a headache if I read more than 15 minutes or so without them, and, yeah, I have to hold the book farther away.  Instructions on medicine bottles? My arms aren't long enough to read them without my glasses.
