The caption doesn't sound right.

I agree.

Just because he's close to the dust cloud deosn't mean he didn't drop a Mav there.    That cloud can hang around for a few minutes.

It's training, he's circleing about to see if he hit it.   He's circleing around in all of those pics.

Mavs are missiles and not dropped, depends on the weather but with min range to engage with an AGM shot, I don't know if the picture of him flying over his own smoke impacts.

Could be dash-2 though.

Do these guys have a fun job?  Is it "dangerous"?  Forward deployed often? etc...

As I am lead to understand, the answers are yes yes and yes.

Yea, my best friend has been a JTAC for about 12 years now.
He loves his job but he is gone from home ALL the time.
He is currently in South Korea again.

Nice.  I wonder if there is room for a former Grunt Cpl...

About the only job the Airforce will take a retread from the Corps for.

Awesome!  Calling recruiter now...

Semper Fi!

I wish I could go back in

Very Cool!

My BIL was a JTAC in Afghanistan after he flew B-1's for a couple of tours.

He now is at the Academy training cadets for the glider program.

Glider program?  Are we going back in time?

I had a job interview last Friday with an ID ANG Col.  When I was driving home, two sections of A-10s were flying "touch and go's" at the airport.  I drove right under one just as it reached the end of the runway on it's approach.  He was probably 100 ft or so over me.  It was loud.

It made me smile.

Here is a video:

My BIL is there finishing his masters before he gets stationed to another spot.
