actually i spent the money on a dehydrator and everything needed to make my own jerky , instead of buying the 40$ a pound stuff. I'll make a step by step thread once all the equipment is here .

Best damned jerky I've ever had. I always stop by there and buy pounds before heading up to Mammoth for fishing.

For almost $40 a pound it better come with a free hooker with every order.

found the arfcom of beef jerky i think?  http://www.bestbeefjerky.org/search/label/Best

MSG makes everything better.

When I have made it at home it comes out to about 4 pounds of meat to make 1 pound of jerky.  If you are paying $5.00 a pound for the meat, that is $20 to make 1 pound of jerky plus the time and electricity.  The Mingua Beef Jerky that I commented on can be bought at my local grocery store for about the same price.

When I went to school in MT, this was/is my favorite.

Hi Country.

Made the trek from Missoula to Lincoln a few times to get the goods.  Now, I just use their website to save on gas

ETA: I am planning on getting a dehydrator soon to make my own. Tag'd for the step-by-step

Same here, but I can usually beat $5/pound for the meat I use.

That reminds me, I need to make some when my FIL visits here in a few days. Every time I mention shooting a deer or elk, he asks if I'll make some jerky.

who makes the best tastiest beef jerky you can get online?  nope , don't want to make my own . don't want none of that hard as leather , dried out could be used as body armor stuff either.  Fresh , chewy , good stuff only please ...Gimme some links ( and non of that grocery store name brand crap either).

I won't say it's the best, but I've gotten a few big packs from these guys over the years, when they do the SoFla gun shows.

Very tender, lot's of flavors to choose from, but like good steak, it's not cheap.  Hit the 'shop online' for selections.

Wild Bill is good, but Pawnee Bill is better.

http://www.amazon.com/Pawnee-Bill-Beef-Jerky-16/dp/B0012AHGNQ

It should be available all over NE PA, I bought it all the time in Clinton Co. when I lived there.

ETA - if it wasn't made by a guy named Bill, it's not going to be good.

make my own...its cheap one of these days I need to break down the cost per pound
make it for tons of people
some want it chewy some want it dry as dirt.
literally can pull one tray then 8 hours later another tray and then another 8 hours
first tray is chewy
second tray is jerky
third tray is dust
I get request on both ends of the spectrum

But I do occasionally buy online and probably the best I've found so far is Ed's Roadhouse Jerky. The guy makes some damned good stuff.

And a live hooker at that.

I became addicted to the green chile flavor when I spent some time in New Mexico.  It is dry, but hydrates quick when you chew it.  It has a great flavor.

'Tis good stuff.  Thinnest jerky I've ever bought.

For an occasional laugh, I give a small piece to the wife's cat.  He scarfs it down, then hauls butt to the waterbowl.

Update: so after seeing the prices like 40$ a pound and sampling some  i decided to spend 80$ on a dehydrator and spices to make my own . Went to amazon and got this dehydrator and a bunch of spices. Went to the local grocery store but the meat counter was already closed so I grabbed 4 packages  presliced stir fry cut steak strips at 6$ a pound , marinated for 8 hours and put in the deydrator for 14 hours . let me tell you , its better than any jerky i have had ever and it was simple to make . i eneded up with 1.4 pounds of jerky.

i'm going to try some angus sliced thnner next batch and marinade for 12 to 24 hours to see how it works . Dehydrator is nice too for bananas and apples and fresh dried herbs.
