They may been the same ass-clowns that fvcked up a story on a project I worked on.  We gave them the entire report and all supporting data. They claimed we were hiding something by giving them too much information.  They also claimed the report too technical for them to understand.  Instead of calling us or the state to explain it they just claimed it was  further indicatation of our attempt to mislead them.

I've had a few more exchanges with this guy.
I don't think there's any real "journalists" left.

>As you suspect, I did receive several notes from folks who seem to think
>the sky is falling.
>FYI-the prosecution plans to conduct physical tests at the state police lab
>to determine the effectiveness of the ammo in question. If they decide to
>drop the charges, we will do a story on this fact. Stay tuned.
>Seems to me this makes more sense than to fly off the handle using third
>hand information somebody thought they once read on a web site somewhere.
>Again-thanks for your notes.
>Joe

Well,  I would have to disagree a little here.  Most of the people you
received
replies from are died in the wool firearms enthusiasts & therefore extremely
knowledgeable about firearms & the laws regarding them.

So I wouldn't dismiss the info. as junk off the internet.
I know for a fact I forwarded you some information that specifically
addresses Winchester's ammunition & federal laws relevant to
"armor piercing" ammunition.  I'm sure a simple phone call to the
BATF would answer some of the questions.

The  Black Talon ammo is incapable of defeating any
Kevlar/Spectrashield body armor less than 5yrs old &
made by a reputable manufacturer.  It is simply a hollow
point bullet with a proprietary coating designed to reduce
barrel fouling & friction.  It's designed to expand on impact
& transfer the energy to the target, NOT penetrate a vest.
A Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) bullet would have a better chance
of penetrating a vest because it is not designed to expand on impact.

The other myth about ammunition is that AR15's or AK47's use
AP ammo.  The FACT is 99% of centerfire rifle ammunition will
defeat any Kevlar/Spectrashield vest, whether it's from a Bolt-Action
hunting rifle or the dreaded "assault rifle".  "Bullet Proof" vests used by
95% of civilian law enforcement personnel are designed to stop handgun
ammunition.
Only very expensive & rather heavy body armor made from high tech ceramics
or steel plate can stop rifle ammunition.  This type of armor is almost
exclusively
the domain of U.S. military special forces or very elite(& well funded)
civilian LEO's like FBI, Secret Service & maybe a handful of SWAT teams.

I think what gets people like me riled up is the amount of ignorance &
misinformation
that is out there about firearms in general & often this WRONG information
is perpetuated
by a media that doesn't do it's homework.  So the uneducated massed just see
stories
abuout "armor piercing" ammo & "threaded for a silencer" etc.

To knowingly spread lies is irresponsible & negligent ; to unwittingly do so
is careless & unprofessional.

Fear usually comes from ignorance.

WTF?  It's taking them this long to realize that those bullets aren't fvucking AP?  I just got myself a box of Ranger SXTs for my G19 just to be a prick.

I'll bet there never would have been an incident if the ammo had been named "White Talon."  Damn racist LEOs and Journalists.  [rolleyes]

I've been checking back on this story as well.  I even tried to find an email address for the Bartley's attorney to get an update but couldn't find one.  I would be surprised if the paper printed a story when they drop the AP charge.

I, for one, am not willing to let it drop.  If they're going to print this kind of horseshit, they need to be held accountable.
