Global warming is real.  It's been going on for about 10,000 years.



How much of it is due to human activity is highly questionable.

If it weren't for global warming then most of us would be a few miles beneath a glacier right now. However there's no evidence that things would have stayed that way if only Fred and Barney had driven Priuses.

Earth has gotten warmer and cooler for a very long time. If anyone thinks it is people, they are giving us way to much credit or blame.

Refine the question.  For example:

1.  How many here believe the earth goes through continuous shifts in temperature over time due to various causes?  I do by the way.

2.  How many believe that man is a significant cause of increases in temperature?  I do not.

3.  How many believe that man is a significant cause of increases in temperature, and to save the earth, the whales and the childrins we all have to give the enviro nut control of our wallets, give up any and all quality of life in the western sense, and be good little granola crunching communists?  Do I need to tell you?

It's cyclic. Much of North America used to be covered in ice.

Earth's climate has been in a constant state of change for as long as Earth has had an atmosphere. To think that humanity is responsible for climate change is nothing but hubris.

Global warming is a fact, so is global cooling. as late as the Civil War we were going through a little ice age. The Salem Witch Trials were supposedly brought about because of ergot on the crops at the time, brought on by extremely cool wet weather. There was global warming in the early 1490's this is what helped Columbus to sail the ocean blue, nearly 500 years before that Leif Ericsson used climate change to Discover the New World

I doubt humans have had the impact that is being claimed.

What if it is 100% the fault of human activity?  Do we not have the right to be here? Didn't we win the evolutionary race to the top (for those who buy into evolution)? Are we supposed to not leave any mark that we are or were ever here?  EVERY other animal does.  IF global warming is our fault, it's also our right.  Screw the polar bear.

More seriously, tell me with 100% certainty what the weather will be like tomorrow, next week, and next month.  Then I'll believe when the enviro-nuts tell me what the sea level and weather will be like in 10, 20, 30 years.

well there is thing called an ice age. earth heats up earth cools down we dont control it.

This is my stance on it. Its proven that we have warming/cooling cycles before mankind, and for us to try and control it based on the idea that we might have any impact seems silly.



The world was here billions of years before mankind crawled out of caves. It will be here billions of years after we're all gone.



 

Climate change is real.  People don't cause it.  It's just conjured up crisis that's being used as an excuse to grow the government, promote one world government and steal our liberty.  At least that's my belief.

I believe that the earth both warms and cools.  What I am not sold on is whether  this latest warm up is man-caused instead of just part of the natural cycle the earth goes through.

If past trends continue, Canada is going to be under a mile of ice sometime in the next several thousand years.

ETA- I have no idea about whether the anthropogenic stuff is true or not, but I am quite sure that Al Gore and his wife make their livings scamming people with fear mongering.

I voted yes as I think you ment man made global warming. The climate changes due to nature, not man.

Its BS... Yes temperatures change, but newsflash it is do to the SUN.  btw a little warmer would be good for the world.

Anthropogenic?  Not proven.  Surface warming?  Hypothetically.  Atmospheric warming?  Definitely not.





AGW hypothesis requires a bulk volumetric measurement of temperature including latent heats.  Measuring the surface temperature is invalid to quantify heat transfer unless you also quantify Stephan-Boltzman emission because that is the mode of heat rejection the GHG hypothesis predicts will be affected.

Man made global warming is the scam of the century. Luckily less and less people are buying their bullshit.

I believe Mother Nature is going through PMS right now, but blaming mankind is bullshit.

Its been hotter in the past and colder in the past than it is now. Global Warming is mostly bad science, the rest of it is wishful thinking and pure lies.





Several years ago, before all the Global Warming BS became a major deal, I heard a meteorologist on the radio who was talking about the temperature data that was just starting to come out showing how temps were rising dramatically. He was traveling around looking at the weather stations being used to gather this data. He found several things. The original spec on weather stations, we've all seen those white boxes with the slats, required they be white washed. White wash is no longer available and the latex being used to paint them now has much different heat absorption characteristics. Likewise stations that originally were isolated out in some field were now suddenly in the middle of a parking lot, next to a building, and in one case, he stated, he observed a weather station that was located at a fire station and regularly exposed to the hot exhaust of fans in a training burn structure.





He was being vilified by "real" scientist for his phony concerns over the data collection methods being used to promote the increase in temps. He said something like 50% of the weather stations currently in use are failed in some way or other.

 

I think it's possible the earth is warming up.  Is the sole cause of it from humans, nope.  He we contributed to it, maybe.  Would it have happened anyway, yep.

More research, less knee-jerk reactions/legislation/hysterics.

Are there changes in the climate? Yes, the planet isn't locked into some imagined 100% stable condition.

I'm not sure if we could trash the planet beyond repair if we wanted to.

I believe that GW does happen but so does Global Cooling.  I also believe that while humans do play a part I believe that part to be minute compared to nature.

I said yes to the pole. I said yes to the lie that Gore and his kind are trying to sell. The Earth is warming up but not because of us.

It was an interesting theory that some well meaning scientists came up with.

This theory was seized on by alarmist scientists and exaggerated.

The writings of the alarmist scientists were read by some well meaning, but misguided environmentalists and the media. To sell papers and solicit donations they to exaggerated the claims.

Then, a bunch of “watermelons” (Green on the outside, red on the inside) got into the act. They are literally a bunch of genocidal nutcases who hate Western Civilization and humanity in general. They wanted to use the “theory” to destroy our entire civilization and reduce mankind to a few hundred thousand flea bitten wretches struggling to survive in the stone age.

And most of the scientific community went along with the “consensus” science. Being a “scientist” might mean that you know a great deal about one subject but very little about another. Properly evaluating the evidence for Global Warming (TM) required scientists to be experts in many different fields and very few of them are.

Then a bunch of evil socialist politicians seized on the idea as a way of establishing some kind of world Socialist dictatorship.

A bunch of evil third world dictators in the UN seized on Global Warming (TM) as a way to extort money from the West.

And a bunch of evil greedy financial types realized they could use Global Warming (TM) as a way to get rich on the backs of the American people.

And a bunch of celebrity dumbasses used the issue to make themselves seem important, caring, and wise.

And a big percentage of the American people bought into all the bullshit because they are gullible and stupid.

Which sort of brings us full circle, because the global warming theory as proposed by the serious and well meaning scientists might just be true. Maybe CO2 levels do influence global temperatures by a little bit. And maybe our use of fossil fuels is driving the CO2 increase. It’s certainly not a problem now but it could be in a century or two if we don’t find some alternatives.

And that’s why I don’t want to call it a lie. It’s better to say that global warming is something that a lot of people have lied about for nefarious purposes.
