of a $0.02 deficiency in my tax escrow.

They paid at least $0.33 in postage to send me a notice of a $0.02 deficiency instead of crediting my account 2 cents as a goodwill gesture. I now have the option of remitting the $0.02 or have my monthly escrow payment increase by $0.01 a month.

I am going to send in a check for $0.02. It will cost them at least a dollar to process it, if not more. I'm even going to write out the check by hand and not include the remittance slip and just write my account # and ESCROW on the Memo.

I know, CSB.

You're lucky you got a letter - I had a tax lien for $3.47 from the state found in closing which almost lost my sale of $450,000 house I was selling.  Took over a month to "clear" from computers even though I went down and paid that day.

Send them three Canadian pennies and tell them you want the extra credited to your account.

You think its possible that this is automated  that the computer doesn't understand the difference between say $1000 and 2 cents?

I really think you are making something out of nothing. Mortgage servicers have MILLIONS of customers and I am fairly certain that this wasn't a hand written document with a licked postage stamp on there....

Calm down and pay the money...

just my 2 cents

Wait, so let me get this right, you have UNDERPAID your account and your lender had to FRONT you the shorted amount? You then come to arfcom and bitch about it?

I'm not upset of course it is automated. But the cheapest First Class postage you can pay, 5-digit presort automation-compatible with a barcode, is 33 cents per the Domestic Mail Manual. As a human you would say, screw that I'm not billing him 2 cents. Giant monster mega bank doesn't care. I know they calculate per-transaction recovery costs and look at outliers so I'm going to make this one painfully expensive for them as a percent of collected.

I might even draw a sensual coconut picture on the handwritten remittance note I send them.

I've decided that after a couple beers I'm going to call them up and ask if I can pay this deficiency in 3 monthly installments.

By the time I get a letter like that, I have two choices, send in the difference, and they will send me a new house payment book because the funds shortage will make my monthly payment go up, or, ignore, and get new payment book with even bigger monthly bill. I now call a couple months before my mortgage company does their annual audit, so I can nip any issues in the bud before I get any letters.

Automation. The money they save from autmoation is certainly more than the cost of sending the letter.
