I came in here awhile back wondering why people thought the Mini-14 sucked.  There's another rifle with which I've never had much experience and I'm wondering what everone thinks of the...

Kel-Tec SU-16

Comments?  Is this thing any good?

I'd rather have a Mini-14 than a Kel-tec. But then again I'd take an AR-15 over both.

Excellent compact rifle.

I would rather have a Mini-14 with a heavy barrel than any AR15 anyday.

Yeah and 9mm is better than .45 ACP.

Having never even held either, I'd rather have the Kel-Tec.

So maybe the Kel Tec SU-16 is more in line with what it should cost than has been said about the Mini-14.

Every Mini-14 I've ever fired has been a solid, reliable weapon.  The accuracy of the ones I've fired was so so but not terrible.  The Mini-30 that I at one time owned was an absolute piece of trash though.  Never fired the Keltec, so I can't help you on that one.

My mini-14 shoots just fine.

I have always thought the Kel-Tek would be a great little truck gun.

My mini-14 ranch keeps em all inside a large pie plate at 100 yards, for $400 thats fine with me. Very reliable rifle with reliable hi-caps.
The keltec didn't strike me as very robust when I handled it, but thats the extent of my experience with one. But it takes AR mags, so thats cool.

Too much plastic for me to use it regularly.  Backpacking?  Yes.  Heavy use?  No.

I want one of the "Charlie" models, and I want to SBR it so that the barrel extends about a half-inch past the handguards. PERFECT "keep close" rifle.
