Inmate Loses Appeal To Keep Victim's Truck

TAMPA, Fla. –– A Florida appellate court has ruled against a death row inmate who petitioned to keep a vintage pickup he was convicted of killing a couple to steal.

The ruling may end a legal battle that has dragged on seven years after the slayings of Richard and Karla Van Dusen in Tierra Verde, near St. Petersburg.

William Deparvine was sentenced to death in 2006 for the killings, but continued to press his claim on a restored 1971 Chevrolet Cheyenne the slain man restored. Authorities say Deparvine forged a bill of sale for the truck, then killed the couple and tried to frame someone else.

An appellate court panel on Friday upheld a judge's earlier finding that Deparvine had no claim to the truck, the St. Petersburg Times reported.

Inmates love to entertain themselves with frivolous lawsuits and appeals that they know perfectly well are worthless. It doesn't cost them anything, and it's a form of waging war against The Man.

There is more to this story, I remember this from a year or 2 ago. He kept pressing it because if he could get the judge to say the bill of sale was real (giving him the truck), he claimed that meant the dead guy was still alive when he was there. Or something like that.
