Call it cynical or educated, but my guess is the first thing that comes to mind in Japanese scientists minds when they think of touchable holograms isn't a light switch.

I remember when Made in Japan was kind of a put down on an items quality. They have come a long way from copying stuff to innovating things

If a real holodeck did exist.... First thing that comes to mind is one of the episodes of DS9, where the Chief and Dr Bashir suit up in RAF uniforms and battle it out in Dr Bashir's own program for the Battle of Britain. That would rock.
