Ok what the hell is this and how do I go about killing it with out fire or tactical nuclear weapons?

And can I save the bush they have attacked?

Bagworms brutha!

Edited to add:  You can kill them with acephate (orthene) and various permethrins as well.  Just read the labels carefully and apply per the label rates and timing.

BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) only works on them well when they are young early in the summer.  I would opt for a systemic like the Orthene and maybe some Sevin as well to cover all bases.

You will have them back next year becuase they will actually drop and pupate early if they detect pesticides.  they only produce one generation a year so getting a hit on them early with the BT (very safe to use) in June and follow up with something like Orthene, or Talstar if you can find it, later on will probably knock them out.  Be glad the little bastards don't develop a taste for your siding!  Voracious they are.

Must be a gravity worm.  It seems to blur space time around itself.

What should I do about control.  How well do pesticides work?  Any homemade ideas?  Or should I just cut the bush down and burn the little bastards?

Yep bagworms... hard shit to kill as a colony.  Those fuckers will destroy a tree in short order.  You'd be doing the tree a favor by burning with napalm over letting those monsters get it.

There are effective poisons for bagworms...  use them.

I did see one time years ago, some kind of wasp that was working hard on getting into it.  I must have watched that black wasp for half an hour as it finally tore into the bag to get to the catapillar.  I don't like wasps but I was cheering that one on as he stung the shit out of that bag worm.

Bag worm infestations can get bad and last a long time as in years.  get them fast if you can.
