Had been on the lookout for a CZ527 Suppressor-Ready in .223, but with the 527 line being discontinued it seems like availability has really dried up fast.
The Ruger American Ranch offers pretty much everything I was looking for and a little more in terms of features. What's the overall view of quality and accuracy of these rifles? Thanks |
|
Gotta enjoy the little things.
|
Accuracy? Insane.
Ruger Americans are one of the most underrated rifles on the market. Swap out that flimsy ass stock for one of the many options. Throw a Timney in there. You will have an incredibly capable rifle. |

I've been looking for same but in 7.62x39.I got an "in stock" email notice last week from a dealer....drastic price increase ...$639

I have one in 5.56, with a 1-4 LPVO and a SiCo suppressor mount.
With 20 round mags and a can on the end, it’s a very capable coyote gun carried in the truck. |
|
|
I got one nib, had geasy sand under the thread protector, and the bolt was so rough it cycled like dry sandpaper.took an hour of polishing to get it to cycle semi smoothly.

It was the last one, the counter guy gave me a 10% discount because it was the floor model. I paid 513.00 OTD. I have been looking for one for quite a while. I put a Nikon 3x9x40 on it. Should be shooting it today. |

This was the first three shots at 100 yards with some match ammo. I'm not an ace shooter, either. Three touching inside the 9 ring on a CMP electronic target. Black circle was the last shot. I've have a 308 I use for hunting the last 7 years. Accurate, smooth action, as other poster said, its underrated.

I've been thinking of this one Ruger Predator, 22" barrel.

I have one in 350 Legend. It is a laser. Took a doe at 200 yards with it this year. Going to add a .308 and a 7.62x39.

I have the 5.56 Ranch rifle that takes AR mags. Great rifle. Accuracy is better than me.
|
|
|
I wanted one right after trying out a friend's rifle in 5.56 it shot very well and is light and handy. I bought one off the EE here a while back, haven't had time to go shoot mine for groups yet, but my friend's could easily do sub MOA.
|
|
|
I have one in 300 black, great little tool rifle. AR mags, threaded, accurate, cheap, can't complain.
Thinking a adding a 223 or 308. |

Is the predator the thickest profile offered. I’m looking for a dedicated suppressor host and was hoping for heavier profile.
|
|
|
Bough my son the compact model for his 9th birthday in .243. He loves it and so do I, very accurate gun especially for the money.

Got one last week, the RAR x39. My biggest complaint was the LoP which was pretty dang long. Got that fixed by trimming the stock, but the poor buttpad got pretty chewed up in the process. Ohh well, it works.
Biggest complaint from my model is the lack of aftermarket components, specifically, aftermarket stocks or chassis for the x39 mini 30 mags. If anyone has a suggestion that will work, I will send them a p mag. Just pm or @ me ETA- I have researched Boyds and Magpul pretty heavily. Unless there is a mod I can do, its a no go. |

It looks like the hunter model has the same barre as the ranch but with a flash hider instead of just a thread protector. I have the ranch in 450 and the predator in 243. As well as a compact in .22 mag that rides in my truck under the back seat. I should probably add a 556 in the ranch since I would have a can for it

They are rough around the edges and are a bit cheap but boy do they seem to perform pretty well.
To me they kind of feel like a modern Mosin Nagant. |

I picked up a Ruger American pencil barrel in .22-250 awhile back. No box or manual, but came with scope rings and one magazine, sold as 'used' but looked unfired. $249 +tax. Could not pass it up for that price. Unfortunately, I bought it just before all the pandemic BS, so I haven't had the opportunity to do much more than a basic sight in, but it seems like it will be a good shooter.
I put a Vortex 4-12x50 AO on it when I found one on sale & may eventually put it in a Boyd's stock. I bought this rifle specifically for hunting coyote. Just wish I could find the damn time to go hunting. |

|
I have a 308 predator that takes AICS mags. The stock is garbage but it still shoots way better than it should for the price. I'm hoping someone comes out with a stock that isn't 3lbs for it so I can swap it into something rigid. I have a Burris RT-6 and surefire brake on it and it's a hell of a hunting rifle. I may just do the carbon arrow shaft in the fore end to stiffen up the factory stock.

Fwiw I love my 308, I have had it about 6 or 7+ years?
Literally only bought it because at the time 223 was hard to find, but 308 was super plentiful and cheap. |

Thanks to the OP for this thread. I'll be out today doing some errands and I will stop by my LGS and see what they can do for me in reference to rhe Ruger AP.

I have a Ranch in 450 BM.
1” groups with factory ammo. Zero complaints for a $369 gun. |

I've had one for a few years in .308. Killed a bunch of deer. It's by far my favorite hunting rifle. Cheap and accurate. I think I paid $250 for it in 2015. No worries about knocking the gun around when hunting.

I have a RAR in 5.56 which takes AR mags. It wears a Leupold Rifleman 4-12x40 I got on clearance at WM, a YHM Phantom QD mount, and a bipod. It's an excellent rifle.

Glades Armory bolt handles are a cheaper alternative to Anarchy Outdoors bolt handles. Glades bolt handles are $55 with the knob. Anarchy's bolt handles are $70 without a knob, knobs are $40 or more.

I picked up a RAR in .300bo last year. It's really fun with a 30 cal can and 1x4 scope, now if only I could find subsonic ammo for it. I will say the factory stock leaves alot to be desired, it's flimsy as hell.

It’s one of my favorite rifles for the past few years. I run a basic Bushnell 3-9x40 with a KAC NT4 suppressor on it in 5.56. It’s my main hunting gun due to size and weight.

I have one in 300 blackout. I've got a fairly cheap nikon scope on it and an SilencerCo Omega suppressor on it. It shoots great! I havent done group shooting on it really beyond zeroing, but I'd say it's easily sub 1.5 moa without any load tuning for what I shot.

I've got the RAR in 6.5 Grendel. The stock is cheap but, overall, its a handy light rifle that shoots well. I was looking at boyds stocks but decided to keep it original as its so light. The bolt was a little rough at 1st but has smoothed out. It's currently all I hunt with.
ETA the stock trigger isn't bad at all for a budget rifle. |
|
|
Had an issue, Ruger fixed it promptly with complimentary nicks and dings, tossed the factory box which I requested they return if they could, apparently too much trouble for a rifle that had just been purchased and not fired one round.
Good value, good rifle, accurate, flimsy stock as mentioned, obviously Ruger Customer Service per the above still has me pissed many years later. |
|
|
Ruger got this one right. Honestly just about everyone has the bolt action rifle figured out, not sure there's a bad one out there.
I have an early 308 American. No complaints. |

I have a .308 and x39 models. Even with the crappy stock they shoot lights out.
