Bored, and want to live dangerously?
Company I've been in for 14 years is in it's death throes...got pounded by the 'Rona. They own a wall of patents on MEMS laser projection and LIDAR, and just signed an agreement with MSFT last week to transfer manufacture of the light engine in Hololens II to a royalty agreement. The next day 50M shares traded...and there are only 150M shares total for the company. Looks now like they were cleaning up for a sale/merger because... ..."MVIS-Today announced it has retained investment banking firm Craig-Hallum Capital Group LLC to serve as its financial advisor as it explores various licensing and other strategic alternatives, including a potential sale or merger of the company." Selling this morning at .22 to .23 a share. Speculation is rampant about what a sale would bring, because potential suitors include MSFT, Apple, STM, Sony and others. Read this thread carefully to see what's going on!...and don't gamble money you can't afford to lose. A reverse-split is also still on the table, and those almost always destroy shareholder value*. ETA: *"destroy shareholder value" is a euphemism for "individual investor loses his shirt". MVIS retains Craig Hallum Full disclosure: I hold 30K shares at an .84 ASP. If they sell for a buck a share I make beer money. If it goes for $5 I make Porsche money. Point is, at .23 right now a buck sale will be a three bagger... UPDATE: CEO just sent out a memo begging shareholders to vote "yes" on the reverse split...heavy implication is they're getting hammered by "no" votes, and the motion won't pass, or is in serious danger. MVIS Reddit is lighting up. I won't pretend to fully understand the repercussions, but it sure is entertaining. If you have proxy voting rights, please use them and support the vote of no confidence on item 3! Go here and do some (non-technical) Reddit reading. Emotions running high. Share is up 28% as I type. One other OTC I have a small position in is TSNP. The ticker is supposed to change soon to HUMBL and it is banking on a new payment platform.
The CEO is Brian Foote and he was the CEO of Block 30. They are supposed to have a big conference call tomorrow and there is a lot of buzz about it. |

Lately I have been sucked into this thread, though and now am a flaming day trader! I wrote a long post I was going to put on here about it lastnight but decided not to burden everyone with it. Some of my best ideas are finding companies that are beaten down and have a good chance to recover over the next 3-6-12 months or so, since the financial crisis there are a multitude of these companies - I call them special situations - some have stopped their dividend, price crashes, buy near the low, they restart dividend and you make a 400% capital gain on it. I have a bunch of these I keep an eye on. PEI and XAN-C are two examples. Thinking of getting into PEI again. I bought that at 25 cents and sold out at 1,13. Might do that again at a higher level now. If you don't mind holding, this is trading at 5% of its pre crisis price. PEI is in retail real estate. That isn't coming back. It was dead before the crisis. Any absolute statement like that is just not tenable or supportable. It suggests all 'retail real estate' is identical and therefore you are suggesting not to invest in PEI. There isn't even an agreed upon definition of what that is. Consider MAC, SPG and numerous others in 'retail real estate' that will prevail. PEI is what I label a special situation. A company that was completely beaten down and where I can see a short term profit by getting into it. It came out of a bankruptcy where the equity was not at risk. I bought at 25 cents. Sold at 1.11 and 1.15. I kept following it and today went in for another round at 1.77 and it closed at 1.82. So I trade this one and make money on it. It is not designed to support me in retirement. At some level I don't give a damn what it even is. If I can buy low and sell high, that's what I need to know. |

OK, I'm no expert on stocks, I had a RH account for a while and did nothing with it before finding this thread. I appreciate all the help, and would like to point out a stock that someone might be interested in.
Stock is FUV, a company called Arcimoto that is making electric vehicles in Oregon. I bought 5 shares of their stock after reading something about the company back in July. Initially it dropped after I bought it, but lately it has been slowly climbing, then today it jumped 4.5 dollars a share. I'm not saying this company is going to be the next Tesla, but more people will be buying electric cars in the future. Might be worth a look for some of you. |

I have no room to offer advice in this thread, but I will offer this one piece of advice. Get yourself an account outside of Robinhood or Webull so you can have access to the broader market of pink/OTCstocks. I have a TDAmeritrade account, but was overwhelmed by the phone app. at first so I opened a Robinhood account. I figured if I want the tools to succeed in investing, I had better educate myself, and now the app. is very useful and I have access to all the stocks I'm interested in. That's all; good luck and I hope you all do well investing!

What is the appeal of Robin Hood and Webull over a more established, larger company? I don't have any experience with them, but the impression I have is that they're kinda fly-by-night in comparison. Maybe not? I have seen several comments about not being able to do certain things in them that I have done in mine with no problems. Were they the first to offer free trades, and then the big guys started doing it later? I remember dabbling in stocks a tiny bit about 20 years ago, and you had to pay something like $15-$20 per trade. |
