So been audiophile/video guy for a long time.  But you get great deals on flagship receivers this time of year.

Go to crutchfield and buy this years models they are closing out inventory. I’m talking a flagship 5k receiver for 2000 or less.

I mainly use them with other amps, because let’s face it. Receiver amps suck. But you can get great deals and use it as pre-pro

I used to be an audiophile guy.

Then the tinnitus kicked in, and what's the point?

But...when will this Dirac Live Active Room Treatment ART come out on pro/pros or receivers?  Any thoughts on that?

I had an audiophile show me different HT setups and sample some speakers and stuff.

Sounded like shit to me. Sounded like mostly treble and hardly any bass.

Even the cheaper home theater systems sounds lots better to me.

I'm hoping for a doorbuster type deal on a decent subwoofer. I could use one for home, and I could probably use another one at work. I have a rather large room which is hard to fill with sound.

Looks like my old secret is wrong.

Receivers are gutless turds. Even a 3 thousand dollar one. A flagship receiver use to have a pretty decent amp. Seems that’s not that case anymore.

Still some decent deals to be had on processing/features. But the amp section sucks ass. My old denon 3802 that’s 25 years old has more power than the shit being put out.

I just buy used stuff off of other audiophiles from places like Audiogon or trade-in components from the fancy audio store. Audiophiles are crazy OCD about keeping their equipment in near new condition.

We audiophiles don’t deal with home theater peasants much.

But I do have 2 HT systems/rooms. But that’s seperate from my stereo and it’s room.

Don’t feel bad man.  The vast majority of people don’t have a passion for sound.

I do, and my 5.2.2 atmos system is quite nice on modest gear.  Really, HT receivers are now more about feature sets, Codecs and HDMI than anything else. The amps built in are for driving multichannel efficiency and processing now.  85wpc is pretty common.

For audiophile stuff my Rotel/ProJect/Bowers system is for critical listening and enjoyment.

Here's the actual secret for getting a good deal on a home theater receiver.

It isn't much of a secret

If you're not even using the onboard amps why would you buy a $2000 receiver? The 3800s have been going for like $900-1000 for months. You're late to the party. Unless you're convinced you want 6 channel atmos or front wides or whatever.

At least buy a prepro if you want a misplaced feeling of superiority while convincing yourself you could pass a double blind test discerning amplifier amps from discrete, or telling everyone you listen to obscure foreign films at reference level in a stadium size room.
