Will start this off…bought a rotisserie chicken from COSTCO today..prepping dinner asked the wifey to find us a bottle of white to go with it…she came back from the garage fridge with a bottle of Flora and Stone, a Gewuerztraminer from Monterey County.   Dayum….twas good with the meal and finished off nice.  She was swearin it was gifted to us…goggled it and discovered it was an Aldi find for $4.99!!!!  Dayum, a lucky find/bottle.

Anyone else luck into something tasty and for a great price?

I was pleasantly surprised by Creag Isle scotch. Was around 32 plus state tax and really satisfied my peat itch. Not especially complex or anything but I love smoky and wasn't ready to shell out for laphroaig 10, good as that stuff is.

Get it while it’s still Brown Forman distillate

I keep hearing Benchmark is very good for the price. I’ve not tried it yet, but just might grab a bottle this weekend. I’ve spent $15 on worse things.

Creag Isle 12 year was the scotch that got me to head down the Islay path.  It was recommended by a guy a Total Wine and I quite liked it.  Now I'm drinking Ardbeg and Laphroaig where before they were far too smokey for me. Not sure I'll go back to it at the 41.99 price point around here when I can get Talisker Storm for the same price but I would not turn it down.

It really is!  And this'll screw people up, but that OGD 114 makes a pretty damn tasty cocktail substituted in for Tequila in a Margarita.

I still wonder where the F all of the Weller walked off to.  Seriously, you can't find any of the Wellers, anywhere.  I was wondering if it was like the Japanese buying up all of the Jamaica Blue Mountain way back when.

Bro, try Bunnahbain (sp).  Or Bowmore 12.  I find Caol Ila way too oily,

They raised the price of creag isle so in keeping with my preference to avoid buying anything twice (at least until I've exhausted the known quality options in my range) I got a bottle of Finlaggan at trader Joe's for 22.99 plus tax.  It's a bit younger and less refined than other peated whiskeys I've had but as a bit of a smoke head I love how it really hits heavy with the peat for an unbeatable price. I'm guessing regular consumption of laphroaig or Ardbeg would probably ruin it for me, maybe someone with more experience can chime in on it.

For the tequila drinker - I really like the San Matias gran reserva extra anejo for around $40. I’m not sure there are any extra anejo’s out there for less money and this one is really tasty. Non-diffused goodness.

I'll second Early Times BIB, bourbon.
$20-30.

Old Forester, Rye.
$24 here.

Of rye is a recent new offering,  at roughly half the price of everything else they bottle.

I recommend it for anyone curious about rye who doesn't want to drop big money to try a fairly balanced example.

I will jump in on the OF Rye. I found that I like it in an Old Fashioned, but I also like Wild Turkey 101 Rye.
They are the same price here, but OF Rye is not everywhere (Unlike regular Old Forester), and Wild Turkey 101 Rye
is in the liquor section at the grocery stores. (I followed the ARFCom rule and got both)

I will disagree about the pricing a bit. Old Forester is half the price of the whiskey row series, but Old Forester 86
and Old Forester 100 run about $25 for a 750ml in this area. (East Central WI)  I haven't tried them, but have heard good things about them.
They are on the list for me to give a taste, just have to get to them.

Not sure about the Evan Williams but the WT 101 sure does.  I finally broke down and decided to try it today and finished off a bottle of Makers 101 that cost double the WT and given a choice between the two drinking both neat I would give the edge to WT.

Powers Gold label Irish whiskey.
Under $30, way better than Jameson etc. I think there's some redbreast goodness in there, just younger.

I concur. Glenlivet Caribbean Cask is ridiculously easy drinking. I gave away 4 bottles this past Xmas as gifts.

If you like a Tawny Port. Trader Joe's Porto Morgado Tawney Port was recently on sale at $9 and I bought 2 cases. Gave those away as gifts as well.

This.  I've been told Benchmark Full Proof is very good and at the price ($23?) it's a steal.

I highly doubt it.  Redbreast is finished in special casks.

I recently had a bottle of Benchmark Top Floor.  Cost me $18.  Wasn't bad at all.  Would buy again.

I meant single pot still distillate. It's not as refined of course but some of the underlying flavors from RB 12 are in there.

As mentioned, Benchmark is very good for the price, and especially for mixing. I’ll use it for Old Fashions and Whiskey Sours.

And over a couple ice cubes, it’s just as good.

Bernheim is a wheated bourbon that I was surprised with. It’s gone from about $22 to $29 in our area (NE Indiana) over the past couple years.
