Does anyone here think scotch prices are going up? What are your thoughts about buying scotch in the US? I have not seen any change in prices, have you?

Yup

I have seen a 10-15 wish % jump here after news of the tariff.....(more correctly news of the Brexit extension)  it seems like they are trying to slowly implement the extra.....

Recent single malt class at a large chain retailer.  Instructor mentioned their pre tariff supply drying up expect 20% rise come new year based on tariff.  Have not researched.

Several TX distillers now making malted whiskey that are tasty.

I bought a bottle of Laphroaig 10 right before the tariffs hit for $37. Now its $46 at the same store.

Nothing else has seemed to go up yet though

With respect to regular, non-limited shelf items, it seems like everything has gone up $5-10 per bottle across the board over the last 5 years or so.

Bought a bottle of Lagavulin 16 3 weeks ago for $70.

Went to the same store yesterday and it was $86.  About a 23% increase.   Pretty close to 25%.... Maybe its just a coincidence,  but I would think Lagavulin 16 would be one of the top selling single malts.  Perhaps they are bringing in new stock from Scotland now?

I also noticed Talisker storm was up 5 dollars from a month ago,  but that's more like a 12% increase.

One local shop had Balvenie 12 yr for $95, and Glenlivet Double Oak for $75 this weekend.

Balvenie 12 yr is still $59 at my Total Wine. Need to go pick it up soon...

It will go up.  I’ve seen the distributor pricing updates.  Some are waiting until Jan 1.

Lagavulin 16 before the tariff was $86 here. Now it’s $120

Oban 14 was $74 before the tariff, now its $96.

I expect similar rises for less common brands will hit in the next few weeks.

That sucks on the lagavulin,  that's close to 40% increase!

I'm glad I've been neckbearding scotch recently.

It looks like its going to get a lot worse before it gets better.   I've seen discussions saying that they anticipate prices won't even go back down after the tariffs end,  because if the market will support them, they will stay there.

The tariff does not apply to Japanese or blends, so now is the time to grab that Jap bottle or compass box you have been debating.

I’ve been contemplating that ^ I’ve heard good things.

I picked up two bottles local yesterday, still $60 each. As far as I can tell, prices haven’t changed on anything and supply was plenty. I’m no neckbeard and can only stomach spending so much in one go

I'm don't know the answer, but if the U.K. breaks from the EU, won't Trump eliminate all tariffs with them? He did say they were going to have some epic trade deals.

Lagavulin 16 has been $99 here for a long time.  I think Lag 8 is $69 and Distillers Edition is $130.

Yes, I think that's an option.  To negotiate away the tariffs.  UK put a 25% tariff on American spirits a few years ago.

How quickly can the UK exit the EU?

I saw on other forums that people are seeing huge increases in prices after the new year.  I went to my local shop today and found that only Ardbeg 10 seems to have gone up around 15%

Anyone else see an increase recently?

Poured myself a dram of the Laga 16 ($85) last night.  Had the wife smell it.  She crinkled her nose and said, "You wasted your money on that one."

I do think the Laphroaig 10 is better.  I wonder what she'll say when I open the Octomore?

I hope you bought two.

Macallan 12 is $73 here

There’s been some small jumps on a few things, but the Mac products are the only ones I have substantially noticed

Costco still has Mac 12 for $60 here.

As of today, the UK is no longer part of the EU. So hopefully the scotch tariff goes away by default and prices go back quickly.

Costco will always have deals just because that’s what they do.

The price hikes don’t seem to have gone in to affect with every label everywhere yet, so here’s to hoping the UK leaving is just in time

Our prices are always higher due to the Alaska effect (shipping and transport costs from the lower 48).  That said, I've not noticed any increase in prices here.
