I can't find any Weller here in town and since I'm about out I made a run to a place that usually has some.

It is sort of a hole in the wall kind of store but they usually have a good Bourbon selection.

Stuff he had that was out of my price range:

Van Winkle 12 lot B $700.00

Pappy 15 and 20, didn't even ask how much.

Old Forester BB $250

Here is what I picked up, never had the Old Grandad before.

In all seriousnes, this comment could not be more true! Long story short, I'm in great shape but had a massive heart attack 8 months ago (44 years old). I'm doing fine, but I don't put things off anymore. Live everyday like your last.

My local ABC store had some Elijah Craig small batch, but I am unsure if it is the barrel proof like you have.

I picked up some Eagle Rare 10 year.

I've lost a lot of friends over the years. One at 28 when he slipped and hit his head on ice letting his dog out in the morning. I stopped putting away nice bottles and stuff for "a special day" after that. There's a few that I hang on to for investment, but life is meant to be enjoyed.

Went to a new liquor store today

Found Weller special reserve and Sazerac rye.

They have a lot of other different bottles I'll buy in the future.

No Rip Van Winkle 10 if that is what you were asking.

When he said the Van Winkle 12yo lot B was $700.00, I didn't ask what they were asking for the Pappy 15 and 20 that was on the shelf behind the counter.

That is freaking crazy IMO.

I really like the Weller SR but I am not a fan of the Sazerac Rye.

I like rye whiskey in general but the Sazerac has a very strong cloves flavor that I don't care for.

I know that a lot of folks really like it so that is just a personal preference thing.

Have you had it before? Give it a shot and let us know how you like it.

First time trying sazerac, and first rye.

You're right about the clove flavor.  A little perfume taste too.
Not sure what I think about it.  Way different than everything else I've tried.

How do other ryes compare?

Rye Whiskeys that I like are

Pikesville (probably my favorite)

Knob Creek Rye

Russel's Reserve Rye

Rittenhouse (very good for the price)

Whistle Pig (very mild and expensive)

Most of those are somewhat similar to bourbon and not at all like the Sazerac.

Bulliet tasted like rye bread and I don't really like that very much.

Michters was pretty good also.

Templeton was the worst. Poured it out.

Well, I was in the neighborhood so stopped in at the same liquor store this afternoon.

This place has been my source for W L Weller for quite some time even though it has been limited to Special Reserve for the last year or two.

Today there was none on the shelf! so I picked out a few bottles of other stuff and went to the counter.

When I commented on the lack of Weller, he started a conversation with the other guy behind the counter (in some language I don't speak). When they were done he said he had only gotten six bottles but that I could have one.

He came out with two, I guess he felt sorry for me.

I'm really surprised that they hadn't gone up on the price if the supply is going to be that tight.

Here is my loot for the day.

I do like the new Weller bottles and labels.

Nice find

I too am partial to the BT stuff. Last week I walked into a retailer in the middle of no where and found 6 bottles of Special Reserve on the shelf,  he let me have 4 of them and yes the price has stayed the same. On my way home my local shop called and told me Antique 107 was in, stopped and picked up 2 bottles of that.  After going over a year without either I now have a little cushion. Now if it could only find a Weller 12  (never had a taste) that would be a good find for me

That is the cool thing about Bourbon, lots of different flavor profiles for different tastes.

I really like it and for $21.50 it is hard to beat IMO.

I am glad not everyone likes it. It is hard enough to find as it is.

I haven't seen any Weller 12 in a long time.

It is getting ridiculous prices on the secondary market and I don't expect to see any on a shelf any time soon.

For sure.

Local availability is a funny thing too. I can probably hit 3 or 4 stores tomorrow that have SR but I couldn't find a bottle of 12 yr or 107 to save my life.

That price increase was reversed by Beam, it should still be $69 MSRP but apparently some stores will be keeping it at $99 just because people still buy it.

I've been a Rock Hill Farms fan for a few years. It's the same # 2 distillate as Elmer T Lee and Blantons and bottled as a single barrel. It's bottled at 100 proof compared to 90 for ETL and 93 for Blantons. Although it's not age stated, it's believed to be aged at least as long as Blantons or a little longer. It's taste is very ximilar to Blantons but the extra proof makes it a little more interesting. If you like Blantons you'll really enjoy RHF. I think I've talked myself into my pour for the evening.

Weller Special Reserve is common around here but Weller 12yr is not gonna happen and you can forget Pappy.

BTW, if you like wheated bourbon try Larceny.  I just picked up a bottle and I thinks it's damn good.   Try it before the hipsters drive the price up.
